CMP Prepares to Open Second Round of 1911 Pistol Orders in Early 2021
November 19, 2020
Civilian Marksmanship Program▸The First Shot▸CMP Prepares to Open Second Round of 1911 Pistol Orders in Early 2021The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) has announced it will begin accepting orders to purchase CMP 1911 Type Pistols at the beginning of the new year – accepting orders from January 4 to March 4, 2021.
In 2018, the National Defense Authorization Act granted the first transfer of 1911s to the CMP for sale and distribution. Arguably one of the most iconic handguns ever produced, the M1911 served as the standard issue handgun for the U.S. Armed Forces from 1911 to 1985. The single-action, semi-automatic pistol uses .45 ACP rounds and is comprised of a comfortable, basic design.
New orders for the CMP 1911s will not be accepted before January 4, 2021, or after March 4, 2021 – any packets received or postmarked outside of those dates will be shredded and discarded. Only one CMP 1911 order form per customer per envelope may be submitted. Those who have already purchased a CMP 1911 through the RGN system or the Auction site will not be eligible to purchase a second 1911 at this time.
PLEASE NOTE: If you have already been assigned a RGN # and have sent in a complete and correct 1911 packet, you do not have to send in another packet. You will be contacted by our 1911 staff when your RGN # is ready to be processed.

Since these firearms are in high demand, a Random Number Generator will be utilized to provide a list of names in sequential order. Customers will be contacted in the sequence provided by the Random Number Generator.
When contacted, CMP 1911 customers will select their grade of pistol (Service, Field or Rack). Customers with higher generated numbers may have fewer grades from which to choose. When the allotment of 1911s is exhausted, the remaining orders will be held in the existing sequence for all future allotments of 1911s. At present time, CMP is unsure of future receiving future allotments.
All 1911 requests must be made through the mail – no 1911s will be available in CMP stores, and no in-store or drop-off orders will be accepted.
Each pistol is inspected and test fired by the CMP before it is shipped. Prices for the 1911s are marked at fair market value, in accordance with CMP’s enabling legislation, at the following levels (shipping cost included):
- Service Grade, $1050: Pistol may exhibit minor pitting and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips are complete with no cracks. Pistol is in issuable condition. Pistols may contain commercial parts.
- Field Grade, $950: Pistol may exhibit minor rust, pitting and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips are complete with no cracks. Pistol is in issuable condition. Pistols may contain commercial parts.
- Rack Grade, $850: Pistol will exhibit rust, pitting and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips may be incomplete and exhibit cracks. Pistols may require minor work to return to issuable condition but are functional. Pistols may contain commercial parts.
- Auction Grade (Sales will to be determined by auctioning the pistol.): The condition of the auction pistol will be described when posted for auction.
As part of the CMP’s enabling legislation to supply these firearms, all customers will be subject to and must be approved by the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), conducted through the FBI, to assure eligibility to purchase prior to shipment to a required Federal Firearms License (FFL) dealer.
Order forms and additional information for the CMP 1911 Pistols are available on the CMP website at https://thecmp.org/sales-and-service/1911-information/.
For questions, call the CMP 1911 customer service number at 256-770-4744 or reach the department by email at cmp1911@thecmp.org.

I submitted my paperwork earlier this year during the advertised timeline. I have never been contacted. Will I be assigned a number?
Our 1911 staff attempted to send RGNs to all customers in the 2nd round through email. It is possible that your email address was entered incorrectly, so please reach out to our 1911 Customer Service Department at cmp1911@thecmp.org and they will be able to help assist you.

I have a high RGN number (17xxx) from the first set and have not been contacted. Am I still in consideration for a pistol?
Mike,
I’ll forward your inquiry to our 1911 staff.
Thank you,
Christine
I have tried e-mail and phone and have no response. My random number was 17265 from the first set . I have never been contacted. Am I still in contention for a pistol?
Mike,
I’ll forward your inquiry onto our 1911 staff and they will be able to help assist you.

Mike
I feel your frustration. After many/many attempts over the last 3 months, I finally received my RGN today August 26, 2021 and its 10K higher then yours. I understand the random system, but it would be nice to know what RGN they are currently servicing. To be left wondering and hoping is frustrating to say the least.
Good luck.
Gerard
Gerard,
Sometimes individuals will post when they were contacted on our 1911 Forum at https://forums.thecmp.org/forumdisplay.php?f=110.
Christine
Good Afternoon Ma’am,
I’ve complied with all the guidance on the site since I submitted my application 21 Feb. I have not called or e-mailed. Unfortunately, I have not received a random number, e-mail or phone call yet. I did just call and left a message on Autumn’s phone service (Opt #5). I was hoping to verify why I haven’t been contacted yet and how this impacts my chance of buying a pistol.
I advised my buddies wife that she was eligible and she submitted her package postmarked the very last day. She’s getting her pistol tomorrow. I’m glad she was able to buy a pistol, but this just doesn’t seem fair! LOL. Hope to hear good news from you all soon.

I’d like to get on the list for a service grade 1911. How to accomplish?
At this time, we are not accepting applications. You can find more information at https://thecmp.org/sales-and-service/1911-information/.
Thanks,
Christine
I’ve been assigned my number and was wondering if there was a way to view what numbers y’all were currently serving.
We cannot release that information but many of our customers discuss their orders on our Forum at https://forums.thecmp.org/forumdisplay.php?f=110.
Thank you,
Christine
Are there any 1911’s left, I just found out about the program today 4/17/21 and really wanted to add this gun to my new hobby/collection
We are not taking orders at this time but you may find one on our Auction site at https://cmpauction.thecmp.org.
Thanks,

when and how do I sign up for round 3 and when will that be taking place? I’m on the email list for sales, don’t know if I’ll be notified that way or not.
We have just begun to start the Round 2 orders. If and when we do a Round 3, a Sales email notice will go out to our subscriber list with instructions and deadlines.
Thanks,
Christine
Are the numbers sent informing those selected in some sort of order so we can tell if we at the beginning or end of the list for the available 1911s?
If so, what is the number spread for round two?
Round 2 started at 20,000.
Thanks,
Christine
i got 27,021 and was offered rack or field grade today. How many 1911’s are being offered and where did they come from? thanks
Tom,
We don’t release any specific information on quantities of 1911s we receive. All the pistols we have received to date are from the Army and dates made range from 1911 – 1945. They were taken out of active inventory in the 1980’s but remained in USAR and NG inventories through the 1990’s. Some were used in special units till the 2000’s.
Christine
I just received my number and I was wondering how CMP will contact us for payment/FFL info etc. Is it by phone call or will you use the email address I provided?
Once we get to your order, you will be contacted by a member of the CMP 1911 Staff in order to obtain payment and FFL information. Please remember that due to COVID-19, we will only ship to FFLs that maintain normal business hours. This is because of FedEx’s new policy of not requiring a signature. Our staff will attempt to contact you by the telephone number listed in your packet, if unable to contact you, they will leave a message if your mailbox is set up or not full. The call will come from a 256 area code. If we do not hear back, you will be sent an email to the email address in your packet giving you 5 business days to respond. When contacted, you will be offered what is available at that time. If we do not have the Grade you want, you must select from what we have. When contacted you must make the selection at that time. We cannot give you a day or two to think about it. If we did this for one, we would have to for everyone, and would never process an order.
Thank you for your support.
Christine
Thank you so much for your quick reply Christine!
