National Competition Gives JROTC Cadets the Opportunity to Compete From Their Home Ranges. JROTC cadets across the country will once again have the opportunity to test their marksmanship skills against competitors nationwide as the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) opens registration for the 2026–2027 JROTC Air Rifle Postal Competition on September 28, 2026.

The JROTC Postal is a 10-meter, three-position air rifle competition that allows cadets to compete at their own JROTC unit’s home range while having their scores compared with participants from across the nation. The competition is open to eligible JROTC programs and is free to enter, making it an excellent opportunity for both experienced competitors and cadets new to competitive marksmanship.

Cadets compete in either the Precision or Sporter Air Rifle category, firing a 3X10 course consisting of 10 shots each in the kneeling, prone and standing positions. Units may enter an unlimited number of eligible cadets.

The CMP encourages JROTC instructors to register early and give their cadets the opportunity to experience the excitement of national competition. From the first shot on the home range to the possibility of competing for a national championship, the JROTC Postal helps provide cadets with valuable experience in marksmanship, discipline, focus and sportsmanship.

A Path to National Competition

The JROTC Postal is more than a stand-alone competition — it provides an important pathway toward the CMP’s prestigious JROTC championship events. Postal results are used to help determine the cadets and teams advancing to the 2027 JROTC Service Championships, where competitors will represent their respective JROTC branches.

Top competitors will then have the opportunity to advance to the 2027 National JROTC Air Rifle Championship, set for March 19–21, 2027, at the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center at Camp Perry, Ohio.

The National Championship brings together top JROTC athletes from Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Space Force JROTC programs for three days of high-level competition.
