CMP Reopens Air Gun Competition Centers to Public, Featuring New Guidelines. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is happy to invite the public back to our North and South Competition Centers for air rifle and air pistol fun, with new protective practices in place for staff and guests, starting on Aug. 17, 2020. Read our Special Notice.

The CMP Monthly Matches will take place at the CMP’s Competition Centers. The competitions will feature:

  • Junior Air Rifle 3×20
  • 60 Shots Air Rifle Standing
  • 60 Shots Air Pistol
  • Beginner 3×10

The scores from all matches will be combined into a league.

About the Events

  • Junior 3×20 – Juniors (as defined by rule 3.1 in the National Standard Air Rifle Rules) are invited to participate in the 3 position air rifle (3×20) match. Due to limited firing points and time constraints, finals will not be conducted and awards will be mailed at a later date. This is a CMP Cup Match (EIC Points will be given).
  • Junior 3×10 – This match is for junior shooters that are not quite ready to compete in the 3×20 event, but would like to compete in all three positions. There will be a Junior 3×10 competition held concurrently with the 3×20. Shooters will be given the time limit for a 3×10 but will start each stage with the 3×20 shooters. This is a sporter only event. Loaner rifles will be available for anyone who does not have a sporter class air rifle. There will be no final for this event. Cut scores will be used and ribbons will be given out for this event:
  • Blue: 220+
  • Red: 200 – 219
  • Green: 180 – 199
  • 60 Shots Air Rifle Standing – The 60 shot standing match will be open to all ages.Due to limited firing points and time constraints, finals will not be conducted and awards will be mailed at a later date. This event will also be sanctioned with USA Shooting and current membership is required to have scores reported.
  • 60 Shots Air Pistol – The 60 shot Air Pistol match will be open to all ages. Due to limited firing points and time constraints, finals will not be conducted and awards will be mailed at a later date.  This event will also be sanctioned with USA Shooting and current membership is required to have scores reported.

ABOUT THE CMP MARKSMANSHIP CENTERS

Both ranges have 80 firing points, each equipped with KTS electronic targets. All shots are instantly displayed on monitors beside each shooter and on display screens visible to spectators in the center area
of the range. All firing is controlled by a computer operations center in the middle of the range. The matches will be run simultaneously and all scores will be uploaded to the CMP’s Competition Tracker website.

RULES

  • 3×20 and 3×10 – The competition will be governed by the National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules. Copies of the rules may be downloaded here.
  • 60 Shots Air Rifle – The competition will be governed by the USAS Rifle Rules. Copies of the rules may be downloaded from the USA Shooting website. Decimal scoring will be used.
  • 60 Shots Air Pistol – The competition will be governed by the USAS Pistol Rules. Copies of the rules may be downloaded from the USA Shooting website.

SAFETY Each firing point will be cleaned and sanitized between each relays.  To further ensure the safety of all guests to the CMP air gun ranges, the following precautions will also be enforced:

  • Masks will be required while within the facility until on the firing line
  • Those not competing must wear masks at all times
  • Bleachers normally placed within the ranges have been removed, with limited chairs available to parents/guardians.

REGISTRATION

To register, click here and look for the Monthly Matches under “Upcoming Events.” Please be sure to pre-register! Walk-ons are not guaranteed to be squadded due to space.

CHECK IN

Athlete check in will be held outside of the facility, and participants will not permitted within the building until their relay is called, via text.  Changing areas, classrooms, common areas and drinking fountains will be closed.  Restrooms will also be limited.  Only participants with one coach or parent will be allowed into the range – no other spectators will be authorized to enter the building.

FORMS

Competitors over the age of 18 must complete and sign our liability release form (affidavit).

Shooters under the age of 18 must have a Parent Consent form completed.

Both forms will be available at the range the day of the match.

*All scores for current USA Shooting members will be reported. There are no additional fees.

Due to the popularity of these events, pre-payments is now required. If payment is not made at time of registration, it must be received at least one week before the event or your registration will be dropped.

CANCELLATIONS

Cancellations received two weeks before the competition will be issued a 100% refund. Cancellations made between two weeks and three days of the match will be issued a 50% refund. Cancellations made two days or less before the match are not eligible for refunds. Cancellations must be sent to CMP by email to [email protected] for the Camp Perry matches or [email protected] for the Anniston matches.

Awards

The junior 3×20 event will be broken into Sporter and Precision categories. Both categories will receive 1st, 2nd and 3rd place individual awards as long as there is a minimum of five competitors in each category. If a category does not have the minimum of five shooters, we will award 1st place only.

For the 60 shot rifle and pistol matches, we will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd for Open and Junior categories. There is a minimum of five competitors required to award 2nd – 3rd in each category. If a category does not have the minimum of five shooters, we will award 1st place only.

MONTHLY MATCH LEAGUE

Scores from the six monthly matches in 2020 will be combined to determine an overall champion. A running total of qualification scores will be kept for all participants at both locations. The top four scores for each participant will be used to determine the winners. Shooters must fire in four or more matches to be eligible for these awards. Low scores will be dropped.

The following events will be eligible for these awards:

  • Pistol 60 Shots (no PPP)
  • Rifle 60 Shots
  • Sporter 3×20
  • Precision 3×20

League Awards

The first three places in each class will be mailed a plaque. A portion of every entry from the six matches will be put into an overall prize pool. Award money will be based on the following chart:

Category Awards

Plaques will be awarded to High Junior in Pistol and Rifle and Most Improved Competitor. Prize money and donated awards will be mailed to the winners.

What to Bring

Shooters will not need spotting scopes. Shooting mats will be provided at the range, but you may bring your own. CO2 and compressed air will be provided. If shooting the 60 shot rifle or pistol matches, please bring your USA Shooting number.
