Civilian Marksmanship Program▸The First Shot▸CMP Adds Smallbore Rifle Postal Competition For 2021The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is pleased to announce its new Smallbore Postal Competition, set to begin in January 2021. The event will feature 3-Position and Prone matches, fired from a distance of 50 feet, and is open to both Adult and Junior athletes.

“The CMP has a lot of experience with conducting postal competitions, and with everything going on in the world today, running a smallbore postal seems like a logical step for our program,” said Brad Donoho, CMP smallbore manager. “We’re happy to be able to provide a place for smallbore athletes everywhere to continue their growth on the range.”
Individuals and clubs are welcome to register. Official customized targets will be mailed to participants to be fired upon, then mailed back to the CMP to be verified. Targets may also be scored electronically using the Orion Scoring System.

- Jan. 11, 2021 – Online Registration Begins
- March 23, 2021 – Online Registration Ends

CMP rules don’t include smallbore f-class at all.
Do we just assume same as NRA?
I’ve forwarded your question to our Smallbore Manager, Brad Donoho, and he will respond back to you.
Thanks,
Christine
I was wondering if you guys have any types of matches set up for shooters with handicaps and are older? I am a Vietnam Veteran who is 100% Service Connected who love a to shoot but do have limitations that keeps me from being able get into a number of the common shooting positions that are normally required for most of the shooting competitions that I have watched on my television. I do have a chance to go out with some your of my law enforcement buddies and some of the former law enforcement personnel that I had the opportunity to work with. I want to maintain my proficiency with any of the weapons that I own. Thanks for time and effort that you guys put into the CMP Program.
Larry,
Yes, we do have programs in place to offer competitions to shooters with handicaps. Please reach out to our staff member, Amy at acantu@thecmp.org and she will be able to answer any questions you may have.
Thank you,
Christine
I read the rules. I hope to participate for my own enjoyment and self-improvement with a CZ 455 American sporter rifle with scope – outside in my backyard as I do for the Air Rifle and Pistol quarterly matches. Would this be permissible?
I will forward your question to our Smallbore Program Manager, Brad Donoho, and have him email you back.
Thanks,
Christine
Will there be a “warmer” weather match coming? Kinda cold to shoot position in MN
The smallbore postal matches can be indoor or outdoor matches. We also have our “Winter Home Range Series” matches – visit our website at https://thecmp.org/competitions/winter-home-range-series/ for more information.

Thank you for initiating Postal Matches in 2021. As a youth I participated in several NRA sponsored postal matches since I lived in the country, my father passed at a young age, and I did not live within 20 miles of any organized club, etc. I found the discipline of competing with myself, being monitored by a neighbor’s father in our backyard (5 acres with an appropriate backstop) to be quite instructive and a positive reinforcement of the NRA small bore class I had taken when my Father was alive. Thank you. I plan to participate and get a couple of friends to do the same
