Shue Adds Two Games Events to Long List of Wins at 2022 National Pistol Matches

August 3, 2022

Civilian Marksmanship Program▸The First Shot▸Shue Adds Two Games Events to Long List of Wins at 2022 National Pistol Matches

On July 17, Jonathan Shue, 41, of Liberty, North Carolina, claimed not one but two overall wins at the 2022 National Pistol Games Matches – part of the annual National Matches at Camp Perry. His success during the Games events helped to extend the long list of awards he had already collected in July.

Jonathan Shue claimed both the 1911 Pistol and Military & Police Service Pistol Matches.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) facilitates the National Matches all summer long, which also includes assorted rifle and air gun phases. Though several competitions comprise the National Pistol Matches, the Games matches are the CMP’s own distinctive series that’s hosted at various events across the country throughout the year.

During other days of the 2022 National Pistol Matches, Shue had earned notable awards like the inaugural Steve Reiter Cup as the overall competitor of the Match Pistol 2700 Aggregate (nabbing overall wins in the .45 and Center Fire 900 Aggregates along the way) and the Ohio Triple Crown Challenge title. He went on to capture the As-Issued 1911 Pistol and Military & Police Service Pistol Matches within the Games series.

Gold, silver and bronze coins were awarded to competitors that earn a specific score at the pop-up match.
Those in the Pop-Up Match are eligible to win special gold, silver and bronze coins.

Shue fired a score of 389-13X in the 1911 Match (where he currently holds the national record score, set in 2021) and 394-20X in the Military & Police Match – a new record for 2022.

Other notable titles during the Games Matches were found by Charles Grove, 74, of Pasadena, Maryland, who was the High Grand Senior of the 1911 and Military & Police events, as well as by Tony Silva, 68, of Snowflake, Arizona, and Vernon Reichenbecher, 74, of Huntington, West Virginia, who each earned High Senior honors.

Returning to the National Matches for the second year was the Oliver Hazard Perry Pop-Up Pistol Match, fired on the Ohio Army National Guard’s pop-up range at Camp Perry. This year, over 70 competitors gave the match a try, with several receiving uniquely designed gold, silver and bronze coins for their earned scores.

The GSSF National Challenge featured Stock, Unlimited and Rimfire divisions for new and seasoned competitors.

Also returning to the National Matches for the fourth year was the GLOCK Shooting Sports Foundation (GSSF) National Challenge – fired on July 16. The match is designed to accommodate new and seasoned competitors, with five different 10-shot series from 5, 7, 10, 15 and 25 yards in three divisions: Stock, Unlimited and Rimfire. All shots on target are scored, with no penalties given for missed or unfired shots.

Winning the Stock division was Steven Pardieck, 39, of New Palestine, Indiana, with a perfect score of 500-43X. Dallas Hall, 15, of Hayeville, Ohio, earned the High Junior title with a score of 465-23X, as Tina Gibbs, 53, Monticello, Kentucky, landed in 12th overall and was the High Woman of the match. Michael Vernon, 66, of Frankfort, Illinois, reached fifth place and the High Senior award for his performance.

Claiming the win in the Unlimited GLOCK Match was MSG Jake Weston, 39, of Whispering Pines, North Carolina, with another perfect score of 500-49X. Weston outshot four other competitors who also shot scores of 500, obtaining the win by only two X’s.

Not to be overlooked, Christopher Roberts, 49, of Charlotte, North Carolina, fired his own score of 500-45X to lead the Rimfire GLOCK Match. Both Roberts and Weston beat out the 2022 National Individual Pistol winner, SSG Carl Clegg, 36, of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, who landed in second in each division.

Competitors put on rain gear preparing for the rain.
The National Pistol Games events were clouded by rainy conditions on the line.
