Civilian Marksmanship Program▸The First Shot▸Receive Your Lasting Spot on the Firing Line Through the CMP Paver ProjectBy Ashley Brugnone, CMP Writer
TALLADEGA, Ala. – With many junior shooting careers reaching an abrupt end this spring, consider the gift of a permanent place for them on the firing line for decades to come through the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) Paver Project.
Situated on the grounds of the CMP’s own Talladega Marksmanship Park in Alabama, the Paver Project offers a collection of engraved granite slats, available for purchase and personalization for an individual, club, company and any other worthy sentiment. The pavers come in 4”x 8” or 8”x 8” sizes, as well as a special 4” x 4” option for juniors.
Each paver is embedded in the concrete areas behind the firing lines throughout the facility, including the practice rifle range, pistol ranges and the sporting clays and trap fields. Individuals or groups may purchase one or up to three pavers.
For more information about the CMP Paver Project, contact Greg Raines at graines@thecmp.org. Order forms can be found on the CMP website at https://thecmp.org/ranges/talladega-marksmanship-park/paver-project/.
All orders are considered charitable gifts to the Civilian Marksmanship Program, a 501(c)(3) organization, and may be tax-deductible.
About Talladega Marksmanship Park:
The 500-acre Talladega Marksmanship Park is loaded with a 600-yard rifle range, a 100-yard multi-purpose range and a 50-yard pistol range, each equipped with Kongsberg electronic targets and scoring monitors that allow shooters on the firing line to review shots in a matter of seconds. There are also shotgun opportunities with a trap field, 5-stand field and a 15-station sporting clays field – all with automated trap machines.
The intricate electronic targets have the ability to be reused, so there is no pit duty required at Talladega. For even more convenience, competitors unable to transport their equipment through the hilly terrain of Talladega Marksmanship Park will be provided with transportation to and from the ranges. All firing lines are covered, so competitor and guests will stay dry and in the shade throughout the matches.
Talladega Marksmanship Park is crowned by 13,000 square feet of the Park Club House overlooking Alabama’s mountain views. Inside is the CMP Pro Shop, guests are given the opportunity to purchase firearms, ammunition and other shooting supplies, as well as CMP memorabilia. Big TV screens located throughout the Club House display shots fired on the John C. Garand Range (600 yd range) throughout the day.
The park is open to the public year-round, Wednesday through Sunday. For a list of happenings at the range, as well as entrance fee info, visit the Talladega Marksmanship Park page at https://thecmp.org/ranges/talladega-marksmanship-park/.
I tried to purchase a paver @ the SHOT Show, when the program first started. My only request was that I wanted my paver to be placed on the pistol range . . . . . I am a former Army Pistol Team member.
The gentleman I spoke with very emphatically told me “NO!” And let me walk away from the his booth.
What is the current policy? If I purchase a paver, can you assure me it will be put on the pistol range?
Sir, I do believe we try to place the paver at the location you request. Please reach out to Greg Raines at graines@thecmp.org and he can assist you.
Thanks,
Christine
