CMP Announces Updates to 2021 Camp Perry National Matches
June 21, 2021
Civilian Marksmanship Program▸The First Shot▸CMP Announces Updates to 2021 Camp Perry National MatchesThe Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is ready to present updated information on restrictions previously set for the 2021 National Matches. The matches will be held at Camp Perry, Ohio, in July and August. Updates include new information on awards ceremonies, Distinguished Badge pinning, range occupation and mask regulations.
Awards Ceremonies:
The CMP is happy to announce the awards ceremonies at the 2021 National Matches, previously cancelled due to COVID restrictions, are back on the schedule – however, in a different format.
Unlike past years, the ceremonies will not be within their traditional location of Hough Theatre but will instead take place in front of the CMP Headquarters, unless otherwise noted, and will be in a more informal setting. The CMP made the hard decision to hold more informal award ceremonies due to the time available for planning purposes, issuing awards and allowing competitors proper spacing.
Also unlike past years, not every award for each match will be recognized during the ceremonies due to time constraints and availability of some awards. An award pickup for certain match categories will be available in the CMP Welcome Center, where check-in is held.
The current awards schedule includes:
July 16 – Pistol Championship Awards
July 17 – Pistol National Trophy Awards
July 18 – CMP Games Pistol Awards
July 29 – CMP Cup Awards
August 2 – Rifle President 100 Awards (on range following Shoot-Off)
August 4 – National Jr. Team and Hearst Doubles Awards
August 6 – National Trophy Individual, National Trophy Team, National Infantry Team and Aggregate Awards
August 8 – National CMP Games Awards
August 9 – Vintage Sniper Match Awards
The awards for the M9 and M16 matches that accompany the Small Arms Firing Schools will be given in front of CMP Headquarters after the completion of each event. Long Range individual awards will be distributed 30 minutes after firing is completed each day, with aggregate awards given the last day of competition. Smallbore awards are currently in discussion.
Distinguished Badge Pinning:
An honored tradition in previous years, those receiving a Distinguished Badge may be recognized during the informal Pistol & Rifle award ceremonies, if they choose, but will not be pinned. Those competitors choosing not to attend the 2021 Distinguished award ceremonies will be able to attend in 2022. Pinning will continue at the 2022 National Matches. Distinguished competitors with questions may email Competitions@TheCMP.org.
Range/Match Information:
All of CMP’s matches will utilize every firing point instead of every-other, as previously reported.
Springfield Armory will be keeping their 300-yard M1A Match, set to fire Aug. 8, traditional – meaning the CMP will not be allowing any rifles with optics or cheek pieces. All rifles may be the traditional match grade with iron sights. Please refer to the errata sheet for changes. CMP rules have also been updated to reflect these updates.
Additionally, current mask regulations state that individuals are not required to wear a mask while outdoors, but are free to do so based on their own level of comfort. Masks are still recommended for unvaccinated guests indoors, while in close proximity to others.

It would nice to see awards for Disabled Veterans who cannot start in the Standing position for rapid fire , instead we are out of competition, with no chance of any awards.
Thank you for the suggestion – I will pass this along to our Competition Manager.
Christine
Hey Christine- any chance we could have the swap meet again this year on Thursday afternoon 8/5. Last one was in the Air Rifle range parking lot and it was small but successful!
Thanks- muddy
Joe,
Yes, we have the Swap Meet on the Rifle schedule for Thursday, August 5, from 5-8PM in the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center parking lot.
Thanks,
Christine
I’m very happy to hear the M1A match will remain traditional. Iron sights only.
Left hand M14s are legal this year for the first time.
I forwarded your question onto Sara Rozanski, our Highpower Rifle Coordinator, and she will be able to help assist you.
Thanks,
Christine
Who’s going to be on merchant row.
Ronald,
You can view a list of vendors on our website at https://thecmp.org/competitions/matches/cmp-national-matches/commercial-row-information/.
Thanks,
Christine
Oh, any chance the Roosevelt Match will come back this year?
Kyle,
The schedule will not change for the matches, so no Roosevelt Match in 2021.
Thank you,
Christine
Good options for the awards. Considerate of the times and people involved.
Thanks
Arthur
Any information or rules for the Pistol Popup Match? The event is on the calendar, and no rules anywhere I can find.
Email competitions@thecmp.org for more details.
Thanks,
Christine
I’m personally glad that optics are out of the match, because it levels the playing field for those not spending the big bucks on add ons, and keeps the match more traditional.
Same! When I first started I limed many traditional sight competitions there were. I miss as-issued categories.
“ All of CMP’s matches will utilize every firing point instead of every-other, as previously reported. ”
Does that mean you will be running a normal number of relays, and will be holding the P100 shoot off?
Marc,
Yes, we are back to normal – 6 relays and the President’s Shoot-off.
Thanks,
Christine
Thanks Christine. That’s great news
Good news all the way around.
As the CMP and NRA now allow optics and cheek pieces on M1A rifles in the “Service Rifle” classification, I don’t see why the Springfield Armory has decided to buck the established rules.
If they want to grow as a relevant rifle manufacturer, they should follow current guidelines.
I am not pleased!
Their match, they can set the rules. They want to stay traditional.
Dumb move, John. They’re shooting themselves in the foot. The M14’s still in use by the military are all scoped. Only the ship-to-ship rope-launchers in the Navy still just have the iron sights.
As a business practice, they have a challenge keeping the old 1950’s technology, workmanship, and high cost appealable to new customers. Customers who have many more LESS EXPENSIVE AR10 platform type options….
IF you see me shooting that match on the 8th, (and I haven’t missed a match since it was established,) my M1A will have a scope and a cheek piece.
They are the sponsors, thats why. Traditional is just that, traditional.
