The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is pleased to announce the recent acquisition of .30 carbine, .22 pistol, M2 ball, and .22 Long Rifle surplus ammunition supply that will soon become available to CMP customers. Currently, the items are in the cataloging and assessment stage by staff members.

CMP recently received significant quantities of surplus ammunition.

“The CMP plans to make the ammunition available to our loyal constituents sometime this spring, after the surplus ammo goes through all CMP in-processing procedures,” said Mark Johnson, CMP’s Chief Operating Officer and Director of Civilian Marksmanship. “Purchase limits and restrictions will be set to ensure that the mission of CMP is well served.”

The CMP intends on maintaining a surplus ammo inventory large enough to support CMP Matches for the next several years and to provide discounted surplus ammo to competitors attending CMP events. All sales will include set limits to remain in compliance with guidelines specified in the Memorandum of Agreement between the Department of the Army and the CMP. 

Further surplus sales details will be forthcoming in the near future. Commercial ammunition sales are currently available on the CMP E-Store to qualified individuals. Register for an account or browse the CMP E-Store at https://estore.thecmp.org.

  2. After signing up for e-mail notification (which I just did) what forms or paperwork should I submit a head of time, and where, to be ready when when the ammo becomes available?

    I recently purchased a 1911 pistol from the CMP (thank you very much for that opportunity), but understand it is a separate program?

    You’re acting like a bunch of first-graders in line for school lunch on Friday, when they have pizza!

    1) Read the press release, above.
    2) Get all of your eligibility documentation in to the CMP.
    3) Sign up for the email list(s) that Christine Elder has graciously posted (numerous times!).
    4) Wait for the email announcing the commencement of the sale.
    5) Place your order, after the sale begins.

    The system is well-designed, and has a great track record of functioning well.

    There are untold thousands of us who have taken the above steps. Posting a comment on this thread isn’t going to get you a personal notification.

  10. Please let me know when you have m1 Expert grade M1’s available for purchase as well as M1 ammunition. I purchased a few of the expert grade rifles last year and I am Very Happy with them.

        Also good to see that supporting CMP matches is emphasized.

  38. Will there be sales of surplus ammo to CMP associated clubs? Surplus 30 cal and 22lr will surely help our junior shooters since current ammo prices are still high and hard to find.

  39. Do I read in between the lines?

    It doesn’t say anything about offering via internet sales, seems to be for matches and for in person sales, makes no mention of the Estore.

      2. This is awesome. I hope to get some ammo for my two M1s. I had to find some on Gun Broker and it was not only challenging but costly. Any idea of what the price will be?

        Does CMP test fire some from each Lot number. Can you confirm this is surplus from overseas
        or is it from US Army supply stores, or a combination of the 2 sources?
