M1 Garand
Yearly Rifle Limit Decrease & Rifle Case Update
Effective October 1, 2023, the CMP’s new yearly limit on M1 Garands will be 6 per calendar year. If you have already purchased 6-8 M1 Garands in calendar year 2023, you will not be allowed to purchase more M1 Garands until January 2024.
Due to supply issues and customer feedback, CMP will no longer offer a free rifle case with every rifle purchase. Customers will receive one free rifle case per calendar year with their first purchase of an M1 Garand in each calendar year. Rifles not shipped in a rifle case, will be shipped in a custom (made for specifically for CMP) corrugated cardboard box with convoluted foam. Rifle cases will be eligible for purchase when quantity permits. This does not apply to pistol orders. All CMP 1911 pistols will be shipped in a pistol case.
To comply with all firearm regulations, each rifle and pistol purchased from CMP will include a gun lock.
Thank you for your support of the Civilian Marksmanship Program.
In the past several years, the M1 Garand, regardless of condition, has become a very hot collectors’ item and sound financial investment. The popularity of the M1 Garand continues to grow as hundreds of new Garand “Fun” Matches are being held all across the USA each year.
Over the past 65 years, most M1 rifles have been arsenal rebuilt, refinished, rebarreled or repaired at least once and often several times. Most will show signs of service (often considerable) and replacement of various parts. They are seldom encountered with all original parts and original finish as delivered from the manufacturer. Such “original” rifles, even in well-used condition, are highly prized by collectors.
Please Note: Fed Ex requires all Adult Signature packages (rifles/ammo/pistols) to have a person 21 or older at the residence or FFL Dealer and the Fed Ex driver will scan their license/government id. The new Fed Ex policy will not allow them to deliver the items without scanning the driver licenses/government id (must be 21 or over).

WARNING!
Dear CMP Family,
The CMP advises to not use .30/06 ammunition in M1 Garands, 1903s, and 1903A3s that is loaded beyond 50,000 CUP and has a bullet weight more than 172-174gr. These rifles are at least 70 years old and were not designed for max loads and super heavy bullets. Always wear hearing and eye protection when firing an M1 Garand, 1903 and/or 1903A3 rifle.
This warning is an update/addition to the Ammunition section in the Read This First manual enclosed with each rifle shipment (M1 Garand manual-page 6 and M1903 manual-page 10).
Civilian Marksmanship Program
Each M1 Garand rifle sold by CMP is an authentic U.S. Government rifle that has been inspected, headspaced, repaired if necessary and test fired for function. Each rifle is shipped with safety manual, one eight-round clip and chamber safety flag. Orders are filled on a first-come first serve basis. Rifles of all grades are packed for shipment purely by “luck of the draw”. Rifles do not have import marks. Prices are subject to change. If price has changed after an order has been received, customers will be notified before new prices are charged. Click here for ordering information.

CMP GARAND GRADING CRITERIA
RACK GRADE: (Fair)
Rack Grade Rifles. Most of these rifles have been refinished or rebuilt several times while in military service and will have some parts from other manufacturers. RACK GRADES ARE SOLD AS IS WITH NO RETURNS OR EXCHANGES. Rifle wear will be exhibited by worn and mixed colors of the finish; there will be rust and pitting on the metal parts; wood will be basically sound but may be well used with minor hairline cracks, poor fit, many digs, scratches and gouges; wood may not match in color, type of wood or condition. These rifles may have some foreign parts and wood may be Walnut, Birch, Beech or other variety. Rifles do not have import marks. Bores will be dark and poor; the barrel crown may be nicked, and the muzzle may gauge more than “3” on muzzle gauge. The Throat Erosion may gauge more than “5”. The rifle is head spaced with a field guage and function fired. The overall appearance and condition of the rack grade will generally be rougher than any other grade. Fair condition.
Manufacturer selection guarantees only that the receiver was produced by the manufacturer listed. The barrel, receiver, and other parts may have been produced by other manufacturers; and may also be of commercial origin with original, re-parkerized, or other commercial finish
EXPERT GRADE:
EXPERT GRADE .30-06 RIFLES will feature a NEW, Commercial-Production Stock Set and a NEW Commercial-Production barrel chambered for .30-06 Springfield. Bore condition will be “as new”, and barrels will gauge “as new”. (SA OR HRA ONLY)
The balance of parts on EXPERT Grade Rifles will match all service grade criteria, showing less wear and a better cosmetic appearance than a Field or Rack Grade. Cosmetic condition will be good to very good. Rifle finish may vary, exhibiting normal wear and/or color variation among the metal parts. May have some visible pitting, frosting, or other minor cosmetic deformity on the metal parts.
Manufacturer selection guarantees only that the receiver was produced by the manufacturer listed. The barrel, receiver, and other parts may have been produced by other manufacturers; and may also be of commercial origin with original, re-parkerized, or other commercial finish.
FIELD GRADE: (Fair to Good)
Field Grade Rifles: Cosmetic condition will be fair to good, showing moderate to significant cosmetic wear. Rifle finish may vary, exhibiting significant wear and/or color variation among the metal parts. May have moderate visible pitting, frosting, or other cosmetic deformity on the metal parts; both above and below the wood line. Stock sets may consist of any species of wood (or combination thereof); and might exhibit significant dents, dings, scratches, and/or structurally insignificant cracks. New production, commercial stock sets may be used, and will likely exhibit noticeable signs of wear and prior use. Bores will be generally bright and serviceable, but may feature noticeable imperfections (pitting, frosting, etc.) throughout. The exterior circumference of the barrel crown may be nicked, dented, or dinged, but such deformity will not extend into the bore. Field Grade muzzles may gauge “3 or more” and the throat erosion will gauge less than 6. A reasonable allowance for gauge tolerances will be afforded.
Manufacturer selection guarantees only that the receiver was produced by the manufacturer listed. The barrel, receiver, and other parts may have been produced by other manufacturers; and may also be of commercial origin with original, re-parkerized, or other commercial finish.
SERVICE GRADE: (Good to Very Good)
Service Grade Rifles will show less wear and a better cosmetic appearance than a Field or Rack Grade. Cosmetic condition will be good to very good. Rifle finish may vary, exhibiting normal wear and/or color variation among the metal parts. May have some visible pitting, frosting, or other minor cosmetic deformity on the metal parts. The exterior circumference of the barrel crown may be nicked, dented, or dinged, but such deformity will not extend into the bore. Service Grade muzzles will gauge “3 or less” and the throat erosion will gauge less than 5.
CMP SPECIAL: (Excellent)
CMP’s new grade of M1 Garand. This rifle consists of a new production stock and handguard set with CMP cartouche, a new production barrel and new web sling. Receiver and most other parts are refinished USGI, but some parts may be new manufacture. Receiver may have pitting (as seen in the picture below). See item for details.
CORRECT GRADE: (Very Good to Excellent)
Correct Grade Rifles are similar to the Service Grade (above), but will show less wear and use. Correct Grade rifles will have all correct parts for the date of manufacture with 80% or better overall original metal finish. The stock and handguards will be of walnut and correct for the rifle but will have some dings, dents, scratches and marring of the wood finish. Stocks will have the appropriate original inspector’s cartouche. The rifle bore will be very good with no significant defects and with a throat erosion of less than 4 and a muzzle wear of 2 or less. Very good to excellent condition. This grade is rare and is only available occasionally in limited quantities. Because of the scarcity of these rifles, they will only be sold on the CMP auction site at cmpauction.thecmp.org.
COLLECTOR GRADE: (Excellent)
Collector Grade Rifles show almost no wear or use and have 95% or better overall original metal finish. Rifle bores are excellent with throat erosion under 3 and muzzle wear of 2 or less. Collector Grade rifles have all original parts as they came from the manufacturer. Wood will have a few handling marks and minor dings and scratches. Stocks have the appropriate inspector’s cartouche. Data sheets prepared by CMP armorers are included in the butt trap of each Collector Grade Rifle. Excellent condition – little or no use. Limited quantities are occasionally available. Because of the scarcity of these rifles, they will only be sold on the CMP auction site at cmpauction.thecmp.org.

RM1MK2MOD0 | 7.62 NATO version of the M1 Garand These rifles were conversions of the M1 Garand to 7.62 NATO using a chamber bushing to convert the barrels from 30.06 Springfield. CMP categorizes these rifles as unserviceable due to the likelihood of “bushing ejection”. These will be inspected and generally complete but will be shipped in an inert state that maintains the rifle’s historical integrity. A waiver must be signed to acknowledge receipt of this NLU as a non-functioning display-piece along with CMPs intention that no attempt be made to reactivate the firearm to a functional state. Parts will not be gauged, and no implication of serviceability should be implied. Transferred exclusively for collectability and display, these rifles are being sold “as-is” with no refunds or exchanges. Please Note: Customers must fill out the CMP MOD-1 / MOD-0 Disclaimer Affidavit and submit it with their order. | Available $900 $35 S/H |
RM1MK2MOD1 | 7.62 NATO version of the M1 Garand The MK2MOD1 was a purpose built 7.62 NATO caliber rifle, built without the problematic “barrel bushing”. Cosmetic condition is good, but Throat and Muzzle readings may exceed normal service grade criteria. These are being sold as is. Purchase will require written acknowledgment regarding EXCLUSIVE compatibility with 7.62 NATO, Mil-Spec ammunition. These rifles should not be assumed safe for use with commercial spec, .308 WIN ammunition. Please Note: Customers must fill out the CMP MOD-1 / MOD-0 Disclaimer Affidavit and submit it with their order. | Available $1200 $35 S/H |
