In 2024, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) was proud to witness the retirements of two dedicated employees, with over 30 years of combined service to the organization – Lynne Medders and Steve Cooper!
Lynne Medders:
Lynne was our senior accountant who had spent over 18 years at our CMP South office in Alabama. Internally, Lynne was seen as the go-to, reliable associate around the office. If she didn’t have the answer, she’d promptly find it. Through her behind-the-scenes work and talent in the finance field, she was essential in keeping the economic side of the CMP aligned – in turn, supporting the organization’s ability to continue its various programs and initiatives. Accordingly, her efforts have left a lasting legacy that will keep the CMP moving toward future endeavors.
“There are so many pieces that work together to move the CMP mission forward,” said Fabian Lobera, CMP’s Chief Financial Officer. “Lynne quietly and steadily honored the responsibilities of tracking the CMP’s finances for many years and is a significant part of the success story of the organization’s ability to continue its great work.”
“We all enjoyed having her part of Team CMP and wish her the very best,” he added.

Steve Cooper:
Steve was our Education & Training Manager who had spent over 14 years at our CMP North office in Ohio. Through the years, Steve held several significant roles such as editor/writer, marketing manager, general manager and even fellow competitor on the firing line. He was a well-known figure to CMP employees, competitors and spectators alike through his presence on the range and beyond.
“Steve Cooper has been more than just a coworker to all of us at CMP – he’s been family,” said Christie Sewell, CMP’s Chief Programs Officer. “His retirement is bittersweet. Steve brought so much more than hard work and dedication to our team – he brought laughter, warmth and a genuine love for what we do.”
“Whether promoting CMP and the shooting sports, welcoming new individuals with kindness or sharing his passion for the GSMM events and Camp Perry’s history, Steve always gave his heart,” Sewell continued. “He had an incredible way of making everyone feel at home, whether they were a first-time competitor or a longtime colleague.”
“Steve’s love for CMP was evident in everything he did, and his absence will be deeply felt. While we’re sad to see him retire, we are forever grateful for the countless memories, the humor he shared and the impact he made on all of us,” she added. “Steve, you will always be part of the CMP family, and we wish you nothing but happiness in your next chapter.”
Though retired, Steve will stay connected with the CMP through various special projects.

Please help us in congratulating these respected individuals who will always remain members of the CMP family!
