The National Matches are our biggest event! In addition to the competitions themselves, there are many schools, clinics and special activities that combine to make this week a complete shooting sports experience for everyone who comes to the National Matches.

Check the list below to find training events or other activities that will be of interest to you during your trip to the National Matches. The current clinic schedule includes the training opportunities listed below. If you have questions, please contact the CMP at (888) 267-0796 or email competitions@thecmp.org.

Clinics and schools are a great opportunity for beginners to receive instruction from CMP staff members.

SMALL ARMS FIRING SCHOOLS (SAFS)

  • Smallbore School: 11 July 2024
  • A CMP Rimfire Clinic with live fire will be held: 12 July 2024
  • Pistol School: 15 July 2024
  • Advanced Pistol SAFS: 15 July 2024
  • Rifle School: 27-28 July 2024

These schools offer beginning shooters special hands-on instruction that starts from the beginning with safety, nomenclature, clearing, loading and unloading, shot technique and basic firing positions.

Intermediate SAFS instruction focuses on teaching and practicing competition techniques.

The Advanced Pistol and Rifle Courses  focus on the fundamentals, understanding training methods, and building a mental approach to competitive shooting. Click here for more information.

CMP Advanced Highpower Clinic: 26-28 July 2024

The Advanced Highpower Clinic offers more complex instruction in service rifle competition techniques using classroom, range discussion and live fire. This course is open only to those who have attended the Advanced Small Arms Firing School at least once and have an “Expert” classification with the CMP or National Rifle Association.

Participants in the clinic must bring their own service rifles, ammunition and shooting equipment. They will receive Clinic T-shirt and certificate. Click here for more information.

CMP Junior Highpower Clinic: 26-28 July 2024

NOTE: Juniors who are new to highpower rifle shooting are required to attend a Rifle Small Arms Firing School first (see dates above) before registering for the CMP Junior Highpower Clinic.

The CMP Junior Highpower Rifle Clinic offers advanced instruction in service rifle competition techniques. Training is led by certified CMP personnel, highly trained civilian marksmen and women and military instructors. Juniors will receive one-on-one coaching during live-fire days – a new feature for 2024. Infantry Trophy Clinic: 1 August 2024, 5:30-6:30PM

Held at Building 950 (directly behind Rodriguez Range) for classroom instruction (no live firing in this clinic). This clinic is taught by the U.S. Marine Corps Rifle Team and includes classroom instruction on Infantry Trophy firing techniques.

Anyone who plans to shoot in the Infantry Team Match for the first time is strongly encouraged to attend this clinic on the rules and procedures for this unique team event.

As-Issued Military Rifle Clinics

NOTE: Any CMP Games competitors who have not previously fired in one of these matches are required to attend a clinic before they fire. All other competitors in these matches are encouraged to attend and take advantage of the information presented.

These free one-hour clinics will cover the Garand-Springfield-Vintage Matches with instruction and demonstrations. Topics include match rules, shooting positions and techniques, scoring and pit pulling procedures and how to fire the courses of fire. The clinic is open to all competitors.

  • Thursday, 1 August 2024 –  9:00AM-10:00AM and 3:00PM-4:00PM
  • Friday, 2 August 2024 –  9:00AM-10:00AM

M1 Maintenance Clinic: 3 August 2024, 4:30 – 6:30PM

Held at Building 950 (directly behind Rodriguez Range), CMP Armorers will present this two-hour clinic on disassembly, assembly and maintenance of M1 Garand. Special attention will be given to accurizing steps that can be taken with this rifle and still keep it legal for firing in CMP-sanctioned As-Issued Military Rifle Matches.
