CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park
June 12, 2015
Civilian Marksmanship Program▸Competitions▸CMP Talladega Marksmanship ParkThe opening ceremony today was awesome and the toast and refreshments that followed were second to none. My day was lifted greatly when given a chance to fire 1 round from the M1 Garand at the 200 yard target. Shooting from a wheelchair due to loss of lower legs because of combat injuries in Vietnam I was amazed at the comfort of the rifle and shooting areas and was actually uplifted when my 1 round hit the 9 ring at 200 yards. My time at Parris Island kept reverberating through my mind, ” sight alighnment, trigger control.” The weapon felt balanced with a smooth trigger pull and made this 66 year old Marine feel young again. I look forward to they match on June 6. Thank you to all wh made this dream a reality.
I have been waiting 6 months to receive a M1 Garand from the Marine Corps League, Townsend Detachment in Montgomery and to compete on June 6. I doubt I will sleep much tonight due to the excitement of this day and anticipation of tomorrow’s events.
