To the Civilian Marksmanship Program Scholarship Board,
My lifelong dream of becoming an aerospace engineer is moving forward, thanks
to generous educational scholarships like yours. Since being named one of the recipients
of the Dr. Carolyn Hines Memorial Scholarship, my dream is becoming a reality at the
University of Alabama in Huntsville. The $1000 award gives me an opportunity to earn
skills that will serve the aviation industry and community well following my graduation.
Thank you personally for your generosity. Without scholarship patrons willing to support
students such as myself, many would not choose to attend college due to the financial
burden. Eventually, after I have become successful in establishing myself, I will seek to
donate to scholarships in an effort to pass on the opportunity given to me. Until that time,
I will seek to give back to the marksmanship community through coaching and
volunteering with local teams and at local events.
When my engineering passion is combined with my passion for aviation (I’ve
earned my private pilot’s license), aerospace engineering sits neatly at the intersection of
my interests. After earning my degree, I’ll seek to change the aviation industry by finding
employment within a company developing, or possibly producing, aircraft that utilize an
alternative to fossil fuel, namely batteries, although I’ve heard of a hydrogen engine
which would work better for the heavier aircraft seen outside of general aviation. I
believe that aviation will become more commonplace in everyday life and cheaper
aircraft are key to that.
Once again, thank you for the vote of confidence and the scholarship. I am
committed to my education and to engineering, thanks to your continued generosity and
the Dr. Carolyn Hines Memorial Scholarship. Your scholarship will allow me to focus
solely on my education and college experience without financial stress hanging over my
head throughout my next 4 years.
