How to install your new M1 Carbine stock and hand guard

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Removing your old stock and hand guard

• Loosen the front band screw.
• 
• Depress the front band retaining spring while pushing the band forward.
• 
• As you move the band forward, the hand guard will be released. Set it aside.
• 
• As you continue moving the band further forward, it will clear the stock and you will be able to separate the stock from the action. As you gently separate them, the action will pivot out from under the recoil plate with very little effort.
•

Be aware of the following before you begin the installation:

*Before placing the action in the stock, check the pin that holds the trigger group to the receiver. It is very important for this pin to be fully seated when you place the action in the stock, you may damage your stock if it is not. This pin tends to be loose and will back out very easily as you handle the action. If you encounter any difficulty in seating the action into the stock, recheck this pin before forcing the action into the stock.

*It may also be helpful to loosen the recoil plate screw a couple of turns before hooking the rear of the receiver under the recoil plate.

Installing your new stock and hand guard

• Begin by making sure the front band is far enough forward so it will not interfere with the action seating in the stock.
• Double check the trigger group pin as noted above.
• Place the rear of the receiver in position under the recoil plate and gently pivot the rest of the action into the stock.
• 
• Gently slide the front band rearward just far enough to hold the action and the stock together but not far enough to contact the front band retaining spring yet.
• Using your finger or a screw driver, depress the front band retaining spring and slide the front band rearward so that the spring just begins going under the band. Don’t push the front band fully into place yet.
• 
• Place the hand guard rear retaining flange into position between the receiver overhang and the barrel. The fit here will vary and it may be necessary to adjust/bend this flange gently to obtain the proper snug fit on your rifle.
• 
• Once the hand guard is in place, slide the front band rearward so that it captures the front lip on the hand guard, and so that the retaining spring hook catches front band. It is not unusual to have to adjust the fit here so that the retaining spring hook can catch the edge of the front band, this is necessary to prevent the band from moving forward when the rifle is fired.
• 
• Finally, snug down the front band screw and the recoil plate screw. Move the slide back and forth to make sure everything moves freely.

Installation is now complete.
