Civilian Marksmanship Program▸The First Shot▸CMP Hosts First In-Person M1911 Sales Event, Spots Still Available for Remaining Ohio EventsANNISTON, Ala. – On Friday, June 6, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) hosted its first of three in-person sales events for its M1911 Pistol Program.
The event featured over 400 pistols in Service and Rack grades, along with other special categories to include consecutive serial number pairs, matching pistol and rifle serial number pairs, early production and more. These rare sales opportunities were created to allow enthusiasts to not only purchase these timeless vintage pistols but to personally hold them and view their unique characteristics up close.

“The first in-person sales event at our M1911 armory in Anniston on 6 June was very successful, based on the overall organization of the event, the curated experience and, of course, feedback from many satisfied customers,” said Jerry O’Keefe, CMP CEO and Board Chair.
Those who attended described their experiences on the CMP Forum, with comments such as:

“I was in the first group this morning at 8:00 and wasn’t sure how the sale would be handled. I have to give the CMP staff a double thumbs up. From the drive in parking, checking in process, briefing with rule before entering and the display of pistols was EXCELLENT. Armorers from the M1911 shop were available to answer any questions. It was smooth, and professionalism was shown by all employees. JOB WELL DONE!!! I would attend again if I weren’t maxed out on my limit. Good luck to everyone.” – PH68
“The experience was fantastic . . . I was in the second group, and the tables were full . . . There was plenty of inventory for whatever you were looking for . . . “ – mvigil2391
Two dates remain for in-person M1911 Sales, set at the annual National Matches at Camp Perry in Port Clinton, Ohio! Limited tickets are still available for purchase on a first come, first served basis through CMP’s Competition Tracker system. (Free account required for ticket purchase: https://ct.thecmp.org/CampPerryM1911Sales.)

REMINDER: The lifetime purchase limit for M1911 pistols has been increased from 2 to 4. Don’t miss out on the chance to add to your vintage collection!
“We are very much looking forward to the next two M1911 in-person events upcoming at Camp Perry,” O’Keefe added. “While the experience will be different in terms of the venue, we are fully expecting to provide the same level of customer service and the same quantity, quality and variety of M1911s to include all the special categories. I look forward to seeing you all there!”

Are the later slots completely restocked?
So I have to pay a fee to get in the door? Is that applied to the purchase price or in addition to the purchase price?
Don — the fee is in addition to the purchase price but as you hopefully saw from all the comments from our first in-person sales event you are going to get tremendous value here. I don’t think any of the over 100 customers from the first event were disappointed. Thank you.
Will AL host an in-person sale?
Jonathan — we hosted one in Anniston AL on 6 June. After we complete the two in-person sales events at Camp Perry this summer the CMP will assess these events and determine how to proceed with in-person sales going forward. But at this point we do not have another one scheduled for AL. Thank you.
What do I need to bring to the 1911 event. The completed paperwork and I give it to them at the door, or something done in advance? please make it clear what is expected to bring.
Dear CMP:
I purchased a CMP M1911a1 in 2019. At the time I was told that there was a lifetime limit of one (1) M1911a1 that could be purchased, has this changed?
Thank you
Roger — It has changed. The current limit is four/person/lifetime. You can order up to three more if you wish. Thank you
I signed up for in person sales 7/15 from 130-330pm. I’ve yet to receive an email confirmation aside from the receipt of payment. When will I hear back?
I provided my email below.
I got a response. Being patient. TY
With this event are you required to buy 2 1911’s? Since they are in sequential order with serial numbers.
Robert — the limit is four/person/lifetime. You can buy up to your limit or anything short of it — whether that is one pistol or four. Most of the pistols on display are not sequential pairs. You’ll have literally hundreds of individual pistols to choose from. But we will only sell the sequential pairs as pairs. Hope that helps?
Christine, I sent in two applications – one by mail and one online. Were they received? The certified msil indicated received but I don’t know what you go off of.
Thank you
Arthur,
Your mailed application was received on 5/19/2025 – see our 1911 order timeline at https://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/1911-sales-information/1911-order-status/.
Thank you,
Christine
Seriously, WTF? First there was a lotto for the 1911’s. There was an issue with the lotto. The CMP went back and told some people who were initially passed over, that they are now eligible. (My FFL had a higher lotto number than me but still received one.) Next there are additional 1911’s for sale. The website says that they will be processed in the order received. The website says that, “CMP has been overwhelmed by the 1911 order status inquiries and due to limited staff and resources, order updates will be provided on this web page.” Apparently, you have the resources to do in-person sales at different geographic locations instead of processing the orders already on hand. In addition, the CMP is allowing customers to purchase 4 pistols instead of 2. How about you fix the backlog and make sure everyone who applied previously gets the opportunity to purchase a 1911 before you start finding another way to unload them??!!
I agree, if you have the cash come in get in front of the line, let the smucks who followed our directions wait. On the other hand CMP probably has more supply than demand and are just trying to clear their inventory.
Probably can’t get rid of them because they’re so overpriced!
Jim and Robert — the in-person sales events were initiated in response to customer feedback. The first one in Anniston AL was a tremendous success in terms of customer satisfaction. And while these in-person sales do take some staff bandwidth we are still processing mail order sales at a consistent pace. And we do have sufficient inventory to satisfy all our customers — over time. From my perspective this is definitely a win-win. There is some mail order backlog but we’d have that regardless of the in-person sales events.
How can I come to a 1911 sale. What do I need and can u tell me any price range they have been selling for
