This note concerns the exemplary efforts of Ms. Sylvia Schoewe in her billet of Program & Competition Support at the CMP. As a retired Marine Corps JROTC instructor, I was recently asked to lead a Marine Corps JROTC program in Akron, Ohio on short notice. It was important that this program start the 2024-2025 school year with a full staff of instructors because it is not only the top performing unit in Ohio, but also the only program to share a city with Army, Navy, and Air Force units.
However, the process to recertify as a JROTC instructor requires numerous certifications, as well as background and security checks – leading to a month’s-long accreditation process before even stepping into a classroom. Being a marksmanship instructor certified by the CMP is one of the many requirements for JROTC instructors. Fortunately, though, after the mandatory training, Ms. Schoewe was able to help process my certification in record time, thus avoiding delays which would have kept me from joining the Akron program in time for the start of the school year.
We instructors in the area have always counted on Ms. Schoewe’s proficiency and professionalism, but this time, she really went above and beyond the call of duty. Her efforts not only helped me out personally but will have a lasting and tangible impact on our unit this year, and we are all very grateful for her work.
Respectfully,
Major Tim Patrick, USMC (Ret)
