Q. Why does the CMP auction items?
A. We have found that it is the most economical and fair way to market rare or low quantity items to our tens of thousands of customers.
Q. What type of items can we expect to see auctioned?
A. You can expect to see:
- Rare Collector Grade rifles
- M1C, M1D, M1903A4 sniper rifles
- Four (4) digit Garand receivers
- Memorabilia and Collectibles
- Rifles that we receive very few of.
- Junk – and we describe it as junk.
- Other items for which we use the auction program to determine market value.
Q. Why are there not Shipping & Handling fees applied to my order?
A. Due to the amounts of items being auctioned and the prices at which items are being auctioned, the CMP decided to waive S&H charges for all auctioned items at this time.
Q. How long will an item remain listed?
A. Items will be listed 7-12 days. Closing for all items is on Saturdays at 9:00 AM EST.
Q. What is the minimum bid increment?
A. The minimum bid increment is the smallest amount you can bid over the current high bid. As a rule, we have the minimum bid increment set at $5.00.
Q. How do I find out what is being currently open for auction?
A. To find what is currently open for auction, visit the CMP page on GunBroker.com – https://www.gunbroker.com/s/npfo/civilian-marksmanship-program/.
Q: Will prices of Auction Items be affected by using GunBroker opposed to CMP’s own Auction Site?
A: Our pricing structure for “Buy-Now” items will not be affected by the transition. “Buy-Now” pricing will remain consistent with CMP’s standard pricing structure for each grade.
CMP cannot estimate the impact that increased visibility might have on our standard format Auction listings, but minimum bids and reserve policies will not change.
Q. What does “reserve” mean?
A. The CMP may wish to put a reserve price on an item. This means that the item will not sell until the current price equals or goes over the reserve price amount.
Q. I had the highest bid at closing time. What happens next?
A. The Monday following the close of the auction, you will receive an email from [email protected] or [email protected] notifying you that you were the successful bidder. The email will provide instructions for completing the purchase.
Q. What happens when bidders don’t complete the purchase?
A. Our instructions will advise the successful bidders that they have 10 days to complete the purchase. If purchase is not completed within the 10 days or other arrangements are not made during that time, the purchase will be considered in default. Unless a satisfactory reason is provided, the member may be barred from participating in future auctions.
Note from the CMP:
We understand this evolution of our Auction program is a major shift in the process, but we are confident this transition will benefit the firearms community by extending our reach outside of our own platforms. Of course, the quality and extraordinary nature of our auction items will continue as we enter this new partnership.
We’d like to remind our supporters that any revenue from gun sales funds the many CMP training and safety programs, youth programs and competitions held nationwide throughout the year. CMP intentionally subsidizes these events to sustain and grow shooting sports in the USA, and these efforts have been increasingly effective, thanks to the support we receive through sales such as these.
Any other questions or concerns about CMP’s new partnership with GunBroker.com may be sent to the CMP Auction Team at [email protected] or 256-835-8455 ext. 418.
