CAMP PERRY, Ohio – For the first time in nine years, three-position precision has a new team champion.
Navy JROTC’s Floyd Central High School, Indiana, fired a two-day aggregate score of 4717-345X to earn the overall title at the 2026 JROTC National Three-Position (3P) Air Rifle Championship – making them the first team to outdo Marine Corps team Granbury High School, Texas, in nearly a decade.

The JROTC National sporter and precision air rifle event for high school athletes was held March 26-28 at the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center in Port Clinton, Ohio. Along with Nationals, the JROTC Championships included a Postals Match and Regional Service Championships – all facilitated by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). The 2026 JROTC Nationals was also sponsored by Army JROTC and U.S. Coast Guard installments along with Walther Arms.
This was the second consecutive year Floyd Central challenged Granbury. Last year, the teams were separated by just a two-point difference, with Granbury claiming the win. It was the closest margin Granbury had endured since 2022 when they found victory by only four points.

In 2026, Floyd Central showed up ready to overtake the top of the podium – in the end, besting Granbury by over 20 points. Winning team members were Megan Fondy, Ysabelle Martinez, Lacy Schilmiller and Logan Hall.
Outside of the championship trophy, Floyd Central picked up a new Four Member Precision 3×20 national record score of 2364-176X.
Also earning records during the 2026 JROTC National Championship were both overall individual winners from the precision and sporter competitions.

Viola Allen, 18, of Granbury High School, Texas, earned victory in the precision competition, firing a new MCJROTC Record Precision 3P Final Score of 469.0.
Likewise, Joshua Prince, 17, of Fort Mill High School, South Carolina, fired a new MCJROTC Record Sporter 3P Final Score of 443.0 on his way to claiming the individual sporter title.
Allen earned the precision win by a five-point margin over Floyd Central’s Ysabelle Martinez, 17, who took second, as Brianna Dougherty, 17, of Navy JROTC’s Camden County High School, Georgia, earned third.
In sporter, Prince secured his own win by nearly 10 points over Katie Ojaniemi, 18, of Marine Corps JROTC’s West Valley High School, Alaska. Following in third was Chloe Davis, 18, of Navy JROTC’s Volunteer High School, Tennessee.

Rounding out the precision team competition was Army JROTC’s Fountain Fort Carson High School, Colorado, which found third with an overall score of 4660-293X.
Marine Corps JROTC’s Palm Bay Magnet High School, Florida, earned the top spot in the sporter team competition by over 30 points with a score of 4405-143X. Team members were Lacy Pulkkinen, Misha Hamid, Emily Coombe and Marielos Castaneda.
Finding second was fellow Marine Corps team and last year’s champions Jack C. Hays High School, Texas. Army JROTC’s Mulberry High School, Florida, landed in third.

After competition was over, the 226 participants, their coaches and guests attended the awards ceremony at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in nearby Sandusky. Those in attendance welcomed guest speaker LTG Gary Cheek, CMP’s Board Treasurer and accomplished military veteran. The CMP was also proud to award over 30 cadets with Junior Distinguished Badges, presented to those who earned the honor through consistent excellence on the firing line.
Walther Competition Shooting USA also presented the inaugural Watson Grant at the awards ceremony – a $10,000 donation ($5,000 from Walther and matched by the CMP) to support the future of a cadet who represents leadership, commitment and selfless service.

The grant was named in honor of Joshua Kaleb Watson, who gave his life along with two others in the 2019 terrorist attack at Naval Air Station Pensacola. As a junior, Watson was a JROTC cadet, CMP competitor and captain of his high school rifle team in Enterprise, Ala. He went on to become captain of the Navy Rifle Team at the U.S. Naval Academy.
Watson’s parents, Benjamin and Sheila, were in attendance to present the award to Mariner High School’s Elyssa Vazquez.
Additionally, Crosman generously donated two air rifles – one to the overall sporter team and the other to the overall sporter individual – to promote the continued growth of the sport.
Outside of awards, the celebratory banquet included dinner, lightshows and music as well as a prom-style dance for the second year – complete with a DJ and illuminated color-changing floor provided by Rock and Roll Express Entertainment Company.
