CAMP PERRY, Ohio – Reserve your spot today at the 2024 National Pistol Matches, ready to take the firing line July 14-21 at the historic Camp Perry National Guard Training Site in Port Clinton, Ohio, and facilitated by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP).
The National Pistol events, open to adults and juniors of all experience levels, include several traditional matches like the President’s Pistol (President’s 100), National Trophy Individual and National Trophy Team events alongside a series of 900 Aggregate matches for .22, .45 and Center Fire Pistol. CMP’s own Games competitions, like the Military & Police and 1911 As-Issued Matches, will also make appearances on the National Matches schedule.
Likewise, the fan-favorite GSSF GLOCK National Challenge will be returning to the schedule in 2024, while the Service Revolver EIC Match has been renamed the Philip Hemphill Memorial Service Revolver EIC Match in honor of Philip Hemphill – a celebrated national champion lost in late 2023.
New to the National Matches in 2024 is the Pistol Steel Challenge, fired on the Laser Shot simulators assembled within Camp Perry’s Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center. The Steel Challenge is a virtual match where competitors use a modified pistol (equipped with CO2 gas) to fire upon simulated targets.
For those looking for a little extra time on the range before competing, be sure to sign up for Pistol Practice on July 15 and 16 (cost: $5.00 per practice time). Competitors will receive a Pistol Practice card at check-in, with additional practice time open for purchase (if available).
CMP also offers indoor Air Pistol National Matches at the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center. Rental air pistols are available – see our website at https://thecmp.org/cmp-matches/air-gun-national-matches/ for more details.
Outside of competition, a Pistol Small Arms Firing School (SAFS) will be held July 15. Participants in SAFS are instructed by some of the top military marksmen and women in the country on firearm safety and competition basics, both within the classroom and on the range. All firearms and ammo are provided for the live-fire portion of the clinic.

Attended the National Matches back in 1966 as an activated Army Reserve soldier to run the Camp Perry, national match, motor pool and supervise the troops during their 2 weeks of summer camp.
Sent 90 days repairing junk sent by unit to be used by participants as transportation. Problem, most of them were just that junk and it was our job to get then back into serviceable condition.
Buses, taxis, trucks, Ducks, boats you name it it was our job to get ready for use during the matches and people behind the wheel to operate it. Thats were the summer camp people came in.
Those troops did a wonderful job and our task were accomplished, but only through their diligence and skills.
Loved the time I send at Camp Perry but never was able to get back there. Hope to one of these years God willing.
