Civilian Marksmanship Program▸The First Shot▸CMP’s 10th Anniversary of the Talladega 600 Sets New Attendance RecordTALLADEGA, Ala. – Back in November, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) hosted the 10th firing of the Talladega 600. With 408 individuals traveling to the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park in Alabama to participate in the lineup of rifle, pistol and shotgun events, it marked the highest attendance in the history of the event.
Talladega Marksmanship Park is the CMP’s premier outdoor facility, offering 500 acres of ranges suitable for virtually all marksmanship disciplines, including archery. The Talladega 600 is an annual event that has welcomed competitors of all experience levels for the last decade and serves as one of the park’s most popular events of the year.

Top performers of this year’s Talladega 600 included Haley Robinson, 25, of Mill Spring, NC, who led a field of 113 competitors in the Congressional 30. Robinson, a current national record holder for her performance as a junior in the annual National Matches President’s Rifle Match, fired a score of 296-16 in the Congressional 30 to secure the win just one x-shot above the second place finisher.
Chance Cavin, 38, of Madison, MS, led the Garand, Springfield and Vintage Rifle matches on his way to earning his second consecutive Three-Gun Aggregate title at the Talladega 600 along with the Four-Gun Aggregate title. Additionally, Cavin was the overall winner of the Carbine Rifle Match (another consecutive win) and the .22 Rimfire Pistol EIC event.

Also earning a repeat win was Brendon Dunn, 19, of Taylorsville, GA, who fired a score of 565-10X in the Rimfire Sporter Rifle O-Class to claim the top spot. Aaron Boyd, 19, of Senoia, GA, overtook the T-Class with 592-23X, while Robert Ripple, 68, of Kingston, TN, set a new record in the TU-Class with a score of 590-27X.
Claiming a record of their own was return winners of the Vintage Sniper Semi-Auto team Shenanigans (Cody Kornegay, Ryan Brady) with a score of 382-11X. Likewise, Indiana State Rifle & Pistol (Donald Abbott, Jerry St. John) set a new record in the Vietnam Era category with 397-21X.
In pistol, CW04 Brian Turlington, 48, of Goose Creek, SC, compiled an aggregate score of 1525-16X to become the overall Pistol Individual.

CPO Kelvin Alleyne, 60, of Jacksonville, FL, led the Pistol 2700 Aggregate in the Any Sights class with a score of 2423-50X, also leading the Center Fire Aggregate. Andrew Granberry, 62, of Germantown, TN, earned the Metallic Sights title with a score of 2339-38X, leading the .22 and Center Fire Aggregates along the way. He was also the top competitor of the EIC Service Revolver Match with a score of 348-8X.
Scott Godwin, 51, of Auburn, AL, reached a score of 2562-73X to lead the .22 portion of the Pistol 2700, claiming the category in the .22, .45 and Center Fire Aggregates. Godwin additionally overtook the As-Issued 1911 Pistol Match, reaching a score of 360-0X.
