CMP Processing Orders, Adapting New System/Order Limit for 1911 Pistol Program

May 7, 2025

Civilian Marksmanship Program▸The First Shot▸CMP Processing Orders, Adapting New System/Order Limit for 1911 Pistol Program

By Ashley Dugan, CMP Staff Writer

With the completion of Round 4, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is excited to announce we have begun the processing of new orders for our surplus U.S. Army 1911 Pistol Program! If you sent in an 1911 order this year, your order will be processed in the order it was received. Please view our 1911 status timeline for details.

Through a partnership with the Army, the CMP offers these genuine, military-issued and field-tested M1911A1 pistols to consumers. A true piece of American history, these are the perfect addition for competitors and enthusiasts alike to enhance their firearm collection.

CMP staff members have already received over 4,000 new orders and will continue accepting more, utilizing an updated ordering process.

1911 Update Graphic May 2025

Who can order during the new round?

Anyone – even if you have just received a 1911 from Round 4, all those who fill out an application will be eligible to purchase during this upcoming round. We’re also excited to share that the Department of the Army has increased the lifetime limit from two to four pistols per person. Orders will be processed in the order they are received.

What’s new?

The CMP has introduced a new eStore payment method for 1911 pistols to better serve our customers.

Why the change?

The change addresses the difficulty we face reaching customers during the day while they are at work and the challenge customers experience trying to reconnect with our sales team once we’ve moved on to assist others. This new method allows customers to complete their purchases at their own convenience, anytime, without the constraints of business hours. Additionally, it significantly speeds up the overall purchasing process, ensuring a smoother and more efficient experience for everyone.

How does it work?

  • When the CMP 1911 sales team reviews a customer’s order packet, they will identify and note any discrepancies.
  • An email from [email protected] will then be sent to the customer detailing the specific information required to complete the packet. This process puts control back into the hands of the customer, allowing them to quickly address any issues and return the corrected order packet without unnecessary delays.
  • Once all required documentation and attributes have been satisfied, the customer will receive another email containing a secure link and a unique code. This will grant them access to the CMP eStore, where they can conveniently purchase their pistol by selecting the desired grade and quantity.
  • The entire transaction is conducted through a safe and secure purchasing process, offering customers the flexibility of 24/7 access to complete their orders at their own convenience.

NEW STOREFRONT FOR IN-PERSON 1911 SALES!

Entry to each 1911 sales day will be available to individuals that have purchased tickets (open to those registered for either Talladega D-Day or the National Matches, respectively), with a maximum of 20 customers per 50-minute time slot. The sale will feature approximately 400 pistols – organized and displayed by grade (Service, Field, and Rack) as well as by specialty categories that include select items normally reserved for auction.

Along with online ordering, individuals may now purchase CMP’s 1911 Pistols at one of three in-person sales events at our CMP Store locations! These one-day events will be held during the upcoming Talladega D-Day event at Talladega Marksmanship Park in Alabama and during the National Matches at Camp Perry in Ohio.

Dates include:

  • Friday, June 6 – Anniston, Alabama (CMP South Store)
  • Tuesday, July 15 – Camp Perry, Ohio (CMP North Store)
  • Saturday, August 2 – Camp Perry, Ohio (CMP North Store)

Visit https://thecmp.org/cmp-announces-three-limited-entry-1911-pistol-sales-events-for-summer-2025/ for detailed information.

Upcoming CMP Auction Highlight: 1911s

Keep an eye out for a select few 1911s that will be featured on the CMP Auction site in the coming weeks. A few “specialty categories” will be highlighted for our Auction page. Visit https://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/guns-on-auction/ for more details and to view current auction items.

See more on the CMP’s 1911 Program, including how to purchase, on the CMP website at https://thecmp.org/sales-and-service/1911-information/. Specific questions may also be sent via email to [email protected].

      Richard,
Emails were sent out this morning but your email address was listed incorrectly. I’ve fixed that on our master excel sheet and your order was received on 7/9/2025. See our 1911 order timeline at https://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/1911-sales-information/1911-order-status/.

Thanks for your help Christine, I got logged onto the forum but after reading I found that several people had their packet received after mine and have already been contacted and gotten their 1911’s. Some over a month ago. Don’t get me wrong I’m certainly happy for them but I definitely frustrated. Trying to be patient but that doesn’t help.

    Thanks again,
    Tedd

    Hi Christine,
Sorry to keep bothering you but you are the only one who as attempted to answer any of my questions. First, I’ve still not received an email to purchase and the date has ended. I’m assuming the time line is being pushed back again. Second, I’ve tried several times to get on the forum with my user name and pass word. It lets me log on but when I try to look at a topic I get a unauthorized message. I can’t even message the webmaster for the forum. I tried the email address you suggested on one to the previous post but it just takes me back the the main page for the forum. Getting pretty frustrated. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Tedd

      Teddy,
The 1911 orders are ongoing and we have a very limited number of staff members. Please be patient and I’m sure you will receive an email with ordering information soon as Hope is assigned to your order. I looked at your Forum account and you are now a Registered User, so please log in and see if you are able to view our Forum.
      Thank you,

Teddy my packet was supposedly received 2/10/25 like yours. Yesterday I think we got all the bases covered. I had to fax a copy of my Birth certificate. Anyway hope your taken care of. Hope was very helpful and pretty nice to deal with. It does seem like quite an ordeal.

        John,
Thanks for the reply, I’m sure Hope is slammed but it’s frustrating when I read the forum and see that several whose packets were received the same or after mine have been contacted and even gotten their 45’s. It makes it very hard to be patient…

Yes Ted I was on July 16th. I screwed up and needed a copy of my birth certificate which I faxed in the same day I got the news. Order email came next day, ordered, confirmation all was alfa sierra and waiting as I write this. Was told Thur or Friday that it might not ship till this week. For what it is worth I think my impatience was due to my watching the computer every day thinking my order was received somewhere around end of January or early Feb. That just fed my impatience. The poor lack of communications from emails and phone calls just exasperated me. With the exception of Christine and much later, Hope, the CMP dropped the ball in my opinion. With the experience CMP has had with “new items for sale” like 1903 Springfields and carbines, sometimes M1 Garands they should of been more prepared for the deluge of orders for the 1911 program. After years of the best customer service ever it was disappointing on this end. Good luck Teddy. Blessings.

I sent my packet in several months ago. I was also applying for m1 at the time too. They notified me that my packed was received and I’ve recently received the m1. I guess I’m just curious if my packed was received for the 1911. Im not even sure which “group” I’m in because forgot when I sent it in it’s been so long. Thank you!

Plese advise. Thank you.

    Christine,

    Good afternoon.

    In February 2025, I submitted 2 applications, 1 was acknowledged 02/18/2025, the 2nd was acknowledged 02/25/2025.

In early June I was contracted that my application had been processed and it was time to go into the online store and place my order. Being unsure of what I might receive I ordered: 1 – service grade and 1 – rack grade. Upon receipt, CMP under promised and over delivered!!

I now want to purchase 2 more to reach my 4 pistol life-time limit. However, I do not know if my 2nd application is still in que, or was delected as a duplicate.

If my 2nd application is still in que, great, I’ll just patiently wait to hear from CMP.

If my 2nd application was delected as a duplicate, urrgh, let me know and I’ll resubmit on-line.

Thanks to everyone at CMP for the service you are providing to the country to maintain the history of these great pistols!

    Hi Christine!,

I received this on 18 February:

    From: Christine Elder
    Sent: Tuesday, February 18, 2025 2:42 PM
    To: Christine Elder
    Subject: CMP 1911 Order Received – Feb 18, 2025

Thank you for your CMP 1911 order. We have received your paperwork and expect to start processing new 1911 orders in April/May. At that time, our staff will contact customers in the order their 1911 order packet was received (we no longer assign RGNs to new orders). Once our 1911 staff contacts you to process your order, we will confirm the quantity (lifetime limit of 2 per person), pistol grade, FFL and payment information.
    Have a wonderful day,
    CMP 1911 Team

Since I was not told that I needed to correct anything, can I assume that the package is good to go?. If so, you have my submission date being processed sometime 15 July and 15 August, correct? Also, can payment be made with PAYPAL?

    Warm Regards,
    John

Hello, what is the return policy? I am waiting to hear about purchasing my 1911 but I am seeing resellers on GunBroker selling service grade CMP 1911’s with replacement slides that aren’t even a Colt, Rand, Ithaca etc. I am expecting a mix of parts but would hate to wait all this time and get a no name slide. Is the CMP using those types of slides on service grades? If I were to get one could I send it back?

From my previous experiences, it’s a “luck of the draw”what will be on a 1911, that most everyone is aware. The other way to guarantee a “original” milsurp would be thru CMP auction.

Hello. I mailed my order on 01/31 and received the 2/13 email confirmation of receipt. Can you please give me the date my order was actually received by CMP so I know where I fall in the contact timeline? Thank you.
