Civilian Marksmanship Program▸The First Shot▸CMP Announces a Refresh of the CMP WebsiteBy Ashley Dugan, CMP Staff Writer
The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is excited to announce a new layout for its website!
The fresh design includes a reorganization of site menus to simplify navigation, an appealing blue color scheme and other elements to enhance user experience. All text in red is highlighting an action or link to click. The film strip on the home page displays several thumbnail photos which allows users to click and find the featured information.
The home page will also feature links to CMP’s Online Journal, The First Shot, and CMP’s Junior Magazine, On the Mark. Links to return to the top of the page have been added and the search engine has been optimized for more relevant results. Additional features on the home page are Upcoming events, Sales items, Auction items and e-Store items and includes links for additional information. CMP Ranges and Forums links are also available from the home page now.
“The old website was launched in February 2020 and we felt it was time for a new design,” said Christine Elder, CMP Communications Manager. “Numerous customers and competitors have pointed out that our website lacks user-friendliness, so we are diligently working to enhance its usability.”
“We have close to 300 web pages with A LOT of information,” Elder said. “CMP has grown over the years, adding many new programs, sales items, shooting disciplines…it’s a challenge to organize it. We hope the changes in Phase One of the new site helps our users get to the information they are looking for.”
The new site includes five dropdown menus which expand for more options. The menus are not so overwhelming when you mouse over them. There will also be a Site Map available from the home page and will categorize items in each menu option. View the Site Map at https://thecmp.org/sitemap/.
The search function has also had improvements and CMP plans to continue to improve our websites. “We have many ideas to improve the Club Search Function, Registration Function and Searching for Matches. It will take time but we are dedicated to making improvements.” Elder said.
Will Dantzler, CMP Chief Information Technology Officer, expressed his excitement in stating “We are pleased to launch this first phase of our website refresh by leveraging the latest website development tools to offer features to improve the CMP community experience across the broad range of products, programs, and services CMP offers.”
We look forward to feedback from our customers and competitors on what they are struggling to find on our website, so we can improve. Please send any suggestions or comments to celder@thecmp.org.
Can’t boil the ocean with this type work. Any progress is good progress. Thank you!
As a competitor I am disappointed at the recent changes. A quick review shows NO changes to the Competitor Tracking pages. On the national records page you can see the record but NOT who shot it, what a disgrace to the individuals who shot them. Likewise on the Top 100 page for the Vintage Sniper results it only lists top scores at the National Matches and ignores all other matches across the country. Over a year ago I posted a similar comment and had a reply from the CMP that they were aware of these issues and were working to solve them. Did not happen.
Randy,
You are correct – no changes have been made to the Competition Tracker web site. We just updated the main http://www.TheCMP.org web site. I will pass your comment onto our Senior staff and encourage them to continue with upgrades to the Competition Tracker web site. Most of our staff members agree with you – CT is overdue for many upgrades!
Thanks,
Christine Elder

Thank you CMP! Updates to web pages are normally 100% better and user friendly.
I cannot wait to see the new layout.

Wonder what happened to my reply. Perhaps CMP is only keeping favorable views.
C.D.,
I don’t see any other comments from you on our website.
Thanks,
Christine
I like the new layout, a nice new look.
Excellent! Can’t wait!
It is a great improvement. Hope it all works out for the better.
Great job
Will it be easier to buy a M1 instead of doing all the mailings uploading all the documents
WILL TRY THE NEW WAY.
Ok by me! Well done!!
Forward is the only direction you can go. The old site was a little bit dated. Hopefully this will smooth things out and make navigation easier.
I Look forward to the new site. Tx
you do realize that the changes [ so called improvements ] to the CMP forum is still not fully functional + chaotic after over 1 year + very little effort is being made to solve the issues –
Robert,
Please send me some specifics on the Forum issues you are having and we will do our best to see if we can resolve the issues. My email is celder@thecmp.org.
Thanks,
Christine
Looks better. Easy to find quickly items of interest.
Looks good.
Dan
This is great news! Can’t wait to navigate the new platform.
Hope it works better than before since I have not really been able to use it since cloud flare was added.
