PHOENIX, Ariz. – Gary Eliseo, 65, of Orange, CA, was the overall winning competitor of the Match/Any Sights portion of the Mid-Range 3×600 event, conducted for the first time at the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Western Games in 2023. Eliseo reached a score of 596-25X for the win.

Over 200 individuals attended the matches, held at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Arizona, March 10-19. The recreational marksmanship event was comprised of vintage and modern rifle competitions, like the CMP Highpower (HP) matches and the CMP Games matches, along with a variety of pistol events.

Rifle events at Western Games, including the new Mid-Range 3×600 Match, were fired on CMP’s outdoor electronic target line.

The latest match installment, the Mid-Range 3×600, offered Match Rifle, Service Rifle, F-Open, F T/R or AR Tactical Rifle classes. Overtaking the Service Rifle portion was Steve Collins, 65, of Phoenix, AZ, with a score of 578-22X, as Ron Wood, 69, of Phoenix, AZ, claimed the F-Open category with 560-9X.

Also new at Western Games in 2023 was the Service Revolver EIC Pistol Match. Leading the event was CDR Steve Killingsworth, 69, of Fountain Hills, AZ, with a score of 338-4X.

The Phoenix Rod & Gun Club claimed the overall spot in the 4-Man Team Service Rifle Match.

Other top pistol performers included Jordan Kramp, 42, of Monterey, CA, who not only recorded a new .22 Rimfire Pistol 900 Aggregate record (breaking the previous record he had set in 2022) with a score of 877-30X but also reached overall wins in the .45 Pistol and Center Fire Pistol 900 Aggregates – ultimately leading him to the Any Sights Pistol 2700 Aggregate win.

Likewise, CW3 Cara Krauss, 42, of Bristol, VT, claimed the overall wins for the .45 Pistol and Center Fire Pistol 900 Aggregates in Metallic Sights, guiding her to the Pistol 2700 Aggregate win in the class.

In rifle, Julia Carlson, 46, of Lehi, UT, earned a score of 2341-85X to overtake the Service Rifle 2400 Aggregate, as Philip Hayes, 55, of Glendale, AZ, fired 2328-68X for the Match Rifle win. Dennis Caviness, 47, of Lake Havasu City, AZ, cleared a score of 840-10X to obtain the Three-Gun Aggregate, based on his performances in the Garand, Springfield and Vintage Military matches. Caviness was also the Four-Gun Aggregate winner.
