Mark your calendars! Registration for the 2026-2027 JROTC Three-Position Air Rifle Postal Competition season is set to open Sept. 28.
Hosted by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), this national-level 3×10 event welcomes high school junior cadets of varying experience levels from Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Space Force JROTC programs who are interested in competing with other youth athletes from around the country in sporter or precision disciplines.
To compete, participants receive three targets and instructions for recording scores. Individuals then fire in three positions (kneeling, prone and standing) at their home ranges – using one target for each position. Once record shots are fired, athletes return targets to CMP for scoring by mail or through the Orion Visual Image Scoring system.
JROTC units with approved Electronic Scoring Targets are also authorized to shoot the postal competition on their targets and must follow the JROTC postal electronic target procedures.
Important Dates for the 2026-2027 JROTC Postal Competition:
- Sept. 28 – Online Registration Opens
- Nov. 16 – Online Registration Ends
- Dec. 4 – Targets Due to CMP by All Services
- Dec. 8 – Preliminary Results Posted
- Dec. 10 – All Scores Final (Protests cannot be made after 8 a.m.)
Top scoring athletes and teams of the JROTC Postal Competition will advance to the Service Championships in Alabama, Ohio and Utah in February 2027. The JROTC series will conclude with the National JROTC Championship, scheduled for March 19-21 at the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center at Camp Perry in Ohio.
The JROTC Three-Position event is jointly conducted by the CMP, U.S. Army Cadet Command, TECOM (Training & Education Command), the Naval Service Training Command and the Jeanne M. Holm Center for Officer Accessions and Citizen Development.
