Cases of score falsification involving the illegal alteration of scorecards are extremely rare in CMP competitions, but they do occur. In scorecard falsification cases that the CMP has investigated, a competitor was given access to their scorecard after they signed it when score alterations were made. In an effort to prevent this from occurring, CMP Highpower Rifle (Rule 4.9.9), CMP Games (Rule 4.7.1) and Bullseye Pistol (Rule 4.9.8) all require that “The Scorer or Verifier, not the competitor, must turn in signed scorecards to the Range Officer.” Penalties for falsifying scores can be very severe so match sponsors, Range Officers and competitors who act as Scorers or Verifiers are asked to make sure this rule is followed. When a competitor signs their scorecard, the Scorer or Verifier should take the scorecard and immediately turn it over to the Range Officer or a Match Official. There should be no opportunities for anyone to illegally alter scores recorded on scorecards.
