Lewis, Kirschenmann Reach New Records During 2025 National Games Rifle Matches

CAMP PERRY, Ohio – The National Rifle Matches have been an institution at the Camp Perry National Guard Training Site since 1907. Ninety years later, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) was formed, bridging marksmanship safety, competition and tradition through its many programs, including the sale of vintage American firearms.
To celebrate these significant pieces of history through fellowship and friendly challenges on the firing line, the CMP established a series of Games events designed for individuals of all experience levels.
The Games events have become a popular part of the National Matches season, with talented competitors returning each year to continue raising the level of excellence on the range.
National Garand, Vintage Military and
Modern Military events.
Leading the National John C. Garand Match was Dennis Sekuterski, 42, of Lancaster, NY, with a score of 287-8X. Sekuterski found the win by only one x-shot over second place competitor, TSgt Ryan Karrar, 36, of North Las Vegas, NV.
Landing in third with a score of 286-5X was Kerri Lewis, 50, of Dayton, OH, who was also High Woman of the match. She currently holds the overall record in the match that she set at last year’s national event.
Lewis also earned the High Women title in this year’s National Vintage Military Match as well as the National Modern Military competition, where she set even more national record scores.
Earning the win in the National Modern Military Match by just one point was Stephen Bukowsky, 38, of Clinton, CT, with a score of 292-12X.
Jon Possehl, 40, of Medford, MN, used his Swedish M96 Mauser to earn a score of 287-8X to squeeze out a victory in the National Vintage Military Match, besting Brian Appel, 36, of Holyoke, MA, by only x-count.
Refusing to leave without victory of his own, Appel led the National Springfield Match with a score of 295-8X. It was his third consecutive win in the match after setting the national record score of 297-10X at last year’s National Matches.
Also earning noteworthy praise in the Springfield Match was Kyle Kirschenmann, 61, of Tellico Plains, TN, who set a Senior category record with a score of 291-6X – a record that had stood for 15 years.
Appel went on to earn the overall win in the 3-Gun Aggregate title (Garand/Springfield/Vintage Military Matches), with a score of 866-22X – his second consecutive win in the competition.

Likewise, claiming his second win in the 4-Gun Aggregate was Jonathan Wood, 40, of Kenner, LA, with a score of 1,134-18X (having won previously in 2023).
Leading the 2025 National Carbine Match was Chance Cavin, 38, of Madison, MS, with a score of 368-4X.
This year’s Carbine Match honored the memory of former CMP competitor Maisey Loucks, who tragically passed away in March from complications related to a car accident.

Maisey’s love for marksmanship began through her involvement with Project Appleseed (a national non-profit program that teaches the fundamentals of rifle and pistol marksmanship combined with the storytelling of American history). She was also an active member of the SaraSpa Rod and Gun Club and the Bent Post Service Rifle Team as well as a regular attendee of the annual New England CMP Games in Vermont.
During her time at Camp Perry, she earned three national records in the Women’s Carbine Match along with numerous other awards.
To further memorialize her significance in the marksmanship community, her fiancée, Hunter West, fired the famous Camp Perry cannon on the morning of the Rimfire Sporter Match.

National Vintage Sniper Match.
In other events, National Matches sponsor, Fulton Armory, facilitated the 2025 M14 Heritage Match, with Brian Rautanen, 55, of Menomonee Falls, WI, leading overall with a score of 367-4X.
Team competition saw the National Vintage Sniper Match welcoming over 185 pairs in Manual, Semi-Auto and Vietnam Era categories – an increase from previous years.
Finding victory in the Manual competition by just two x-shots was Team Box (Thomas Box, Thomas Box, Jr.), with a score of 393-20X. In an equally tight matchup, White Claws with Williams (Michael Korff, David Harrison) led the Semi-Auto category with a score of 371-5X, while Solon Alliance (Michael Heaberlin, Scott Smith) set a new record score of 399-18X for a one-point-margin win in the Vietnam Era category.
