TALLADEGA, Ala. – Pistol competitor Jared Sonti, 25, of Kempner, TX, made his name known at the 2024 Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Talladega 600 by not only earning three overall wins but also marking a new event record in the EIC Revolver Pistol Match.
Sonti recorded a score of 363-9X in the competition while also earning the .22 Rimfire Sporter and Pistol EIC (Excellence-in-Competition) titles.
The Talladega 600 was held Nov. 8-14 at the Talladega Marksmanship Park in Alabama with over 330 participants competing in the lineup of outdoor rifle and pistol events. Andrew Granbury, 61, of Germantown, TN, went on to claim multiple pistol titles own, including the Military & Police Service Pistol and As-Issued 1911 events. Eric Herrin, 61, of Raleigh, NC, was the overall pistol aggregate winner with a score of 1553-24X.
Kelvin Alleyne, 58, of Jacksonville, FL, led the Any Sights portion of the Pistol 2700 Aggregate with a score of 2470-46X, while SFC Lawrence Carter, 43, of Fort Eustis, VA, pulled together a combined score of 2468-56X to lead the Metallic Sights category.
In rifle, Charles Clifton, 17, of Waverly, OH, earned his first EIC points toward a Distinguished Badge after claiming the overall win in the M16 Rifle Match with a score of 386-6X. Clifton was just one of two juniors in the match, which accompanies the Rifle Marksmanship 101 Course.
Keith Schachle, 66, of Jasper, GA, was the top Four-Gun Aggregate competitor with a score of 1146-30X. The competition is a culmination of scores from the Garand, Springfield, Vintage and Modern Military rifle matches. Earning the Three-Gun title was Chance Cavin, 37, of Madison, MS, with a score of 855-21X. Schachle and Cavin also found individual wins in the Vintage Military and Carbine Matches, respectively.
The U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit’s SSG Verne Conant, 28, found three titles during the course of the Talladega 600 – overtaking the Rifle EIC, Congressional 30 and 1600 Aggregate Matches. He also paired up with teammate SPC Adam Fitzpatrick, 29, to claim the Dixie Double match.
Fitzpatrick created his own success by clinching the Service Rifle Mid-Range 2×600 Aggregate with an outstanding score of 800-43X.
