CAMP PERRY, Ohio – Claiming the Coats Brown Memorial Trophy and the overall aggregate win at the 2025 National Long Range Matches was Palma class competitor SSG Jarrod McGaffic, 35, of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit.

The aggregate combines each individual’s scores in the six offered individual events and Palma competitions, with McGaffic racking up a score of 1,640-87X. McGaffic only led the event by six x-shots over second place finisher James Cronin, 64, of Townsend, DE.
This was the first time in the history of the CMP Long Range series that the overall winner was outside of the “Long Range Rifle” category, with McGaffic also finding overall wins within the Palma class in the Viale and Baesel Memorial Matches.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) National Matches is a month-long series of competitions and learning courses in a variety of rifle and pistol disciplines. The 2025 Long Range phase was held Aug. 4-9 and included a mix of individual and team 1,000-yard competitions in Match, Service, Palma, F-Open, F-T/R and AR Tactical rifle categories – all fired on CMP’s line of outdoor electronic targets.
The National Long Range series also included two days of Mid-Range matches, fired from 600 yards. Pleasant weather and an increase in participation, including new competitors from Canada and expanded entries within the AR-Tactical and F-Classes, highlighted the week of exciting competition on the range.

Squeaking out a win in the Mid-Range Aggregate in Match Rifle was Timothy Plowman, 40, of Waterville, OH, with a score of 1,200-85X. Plowman finished just one point above the next three competitors to earn the overall spot after leading the event on Day 1 of competition.
Leading Day 2 of the Mid-Range Match was SFC Amanda Elsenboss, 36, of the Army National Guard. Elsenboss went on to win the Viale Memorial Match and the Kerr Memorial Match with outstanding scores of 200-14X in each event, only leading by x-count.

Overall Match Rifle teams of the Mid-Range Matches:
- Day 1: ORPA (Roy Mitchell, Timothy Plowman) – 400-26X
- Day 2: Reade Range 2 (William Gelet, Thomas Ferraro) – 399-29X
In other individual events, Jim Sokolowski, 53, of Franklin, TN, inched out an overall win in the Long Range category of the Critchfield Memorial Match with a score of 200-13x. Proving the amount of talent in the national event, the top six competitors in the match also managed to fire a perfect score of 200 over the course of the day.
Also finding Long Range Rifle category wins were:
- Henry Memorial Match: Phillip Crowe, 61, Cullman, AL – 200-14X
- McMaken & Speaks Memorial Match: Ronald LeBlanc, 68, Portsmouth, RI – 200-12X

Outside of individual events, the 2025 National Long Range Series featured four team matches. Top Match Rifle teams included:
- Bataan Memorial Team Match: All Guard Maroon (MAJ Samuel Freeman, SFC Amanda Elsenboss, LTC Aaron Grimm, MSG Michael Hester) – 797-48X
