Civilian Marksmanship Program▸The First Shot▸Marksmanship Enthusiast Donates Nearly $80,000 in Firearms to the CMPBy Kaylee Hayden, CMP Auction Sales Associate
Roger Jarmon has been a valued and dedicated customer of the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) for many years, consistently investing several thousands of dollars in auction items to add to his impressive collection of military history. His passion for preserving and honoring the legacy of our nation’s military firearms is evident in his long-standing support of the CMP’s mission.
In a recent testimonial, Mr. Jarmon shared his appreciation for the CMP Auction, calling it “a great source to obtain a true piece of military history.” This sentiment resonates with the essence of the CMP, where history is not just preserved but passed on to individuals who truly value the stories each item holds.
Recently, Roger’s generosity took another meaningful step as he made a remarkable donation of nearly $80,000 worth of rifles back to the CMP. This donation, which includes several rare and historically significant firearms, reflects his deep commitment to supporting the program and ensuring that future generations can experience and learn from these iconic pieces of military history.
To show his appreciation and to further connect with the CMP’s staff and mission, Roger spent the day at the CMP in Anniston, Ala., receiving an exclusive tour of the main armory. This experience allowed him to see firsthand how the CMP maintains and preserves the rich history of American firearms. Throughout the day, Roger shared his thoughts on the importance of preserving such items and his support for the CMP’s mission.
His donation is not only a testament to his dedication as a collector but also an expression of his desire to give back to an organization that has played a significant role in preserving and sharing the history of military arms.
The CMP is deeply grateful for Roger Jarmon’s continued support and generosity. His contributions play a vital role in ensuring that the legacy of these historic firearms is preserved for future generations.

What a fine idea! I would consider having my family do that after my death… Thank you Mr. Jarmon!
I’ve read several articles on this subject, but yours stands out for its clarity and depth. The way you’ve connected different aspects of the topic shows real expertise.
Good on you Mr. Jarmon. Great to see people that are not all about the almighty dollar. I remember as a youth what it meant to me. It could really encourage the sport when put in the right hands of a sparkly eyed 14 yr old. Off subject, but furthermore if possible 17 and under should be able to enter competition at cmp for free or greatly reduced entry fees as they are the future and not many on the firing line. I realize the youth do get a small discount but if more were exposed I believe it would pay for itself in the future. Just an observation CMP. Hats off to you again Mr Jarmon.
Dedication. I am a Vietnam Veteran at old age now and looking forward to meeting my maker. I have long been a collector and shooter of war era rifles also an active high power rifle competitor. I cherish each of my weapons, not just because I possess them, but for what the parts each played in world history. Each has personal history with me also just like my children do. I know he had likewise feelings. His dedication to the shooting sports and to preserving history will be his legacy. I would feel like I was giving away my children. I sincerely hope that his collection ends in loving hands and not some gun buying money maker. Maybe I will follow his example. Amen
WOW! What a patriot!
I think the CMP should give a “shout out“ to him (which they are with this article) by dedicating a Springfield or grand match to him, even if it’s a one time thing.
I think children shooting in junior rifle programs should know that a man like this exists. Maybe an air rifle or 22 rifle shoot off, dedicated to him?
Will the CMP take donations of firearms from anyone (like the NRA)? If so, how does one go about doing that?
Anyone may contribute firearms to the CMP (an IRS registered 501(c)3) by reaching out directly to me: Fabian Lobera flobera@thecmp.org. The funds derived from the sale of those firearms back in to the CMP family of historic firearms enthusiasts will be applied to funding the CMP’s mission of promoting marksmanship and firearms safety, with a large focus on youth initiatives. Thank you for your question.
What a great guy. This is what the shooting fraternity is all about. So, maybe, like me, there are some CMP style firearms in the closet that at some point, me or my off springs will likely never put to their intended use and what a great way to promote the sport by donating them for others to use.
Hadn’t thought about it, but this gentleman’s generosity gave me something to think about.
A true patriot and sportsman. Thank you for your support Mr. Jarmon.
Good Man!!!
Mr Jarmon is a poor man’s friend. Thank you sir.
Love this man for his honesty and integrity of work he is doing thank sir
Are those guns he donated going to be sold to the public??
Yes, per Mr. Jarmon’s request, the firearms will be reauctioned off to be kept in the CMP family of historic firearms enthusiasts. Those funds will be used to further the CMP’s mission to promote marksmanship and firearms safety training.
