CMP to Present Up to $1 Million in Scholarships, Including One $40,000 Award

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is proud to announce a substantially enhanced Scholarship Program for the 2025-2026 school year, now awarding up to $1 million to students involved in marksmanship activities.
In the past, one-time scholarship amounts of $1,000, $3,000 and $5,000 were presented, along with select four-year recurring $5,000 scholarships ($20,000 in total over four years).
After careful consideration, the CMP Scholarship Committee has decided to no longer offer one-time $1,000 scholarships to junior marksmanship athletes in order to provide more substantial support through $3,000, $10,000, $20,000 and $40,000 scholarships.
The CMP will be awarding over 250 one-year $3,000 scholarships, 15 one-year $10,000 scholarships and one $40,000 scholarship ($10,000 each year over four years) to exemplary students.
The recurring four-year $5,000 scholarships will continue to be awarded to honor past notable CMP Board members Judith Legerski, Jon Bengston, Harry Sieben and the late Dr. Carolyn Hines, who were all devoted to sustaining youth activities.
Additionally, the Garand Collectors Association will be presenting four one-year $5,000 John C. Garand Scholarships.
Since 2005, the CMP Scholarship Program has presented scholarships to high school seniors based on merit, humanitarian efforts, extracurricular activities and marksmanship participation. High school student-athletes are encouraged to apply for CMP Scholarships, which may be used to pursue post-secondary or vocational programs, community colleges or university educations as well as trade schools to cover a variety of interests.
Recipients and award amounts will be determined by the Scholarship Committee after carefully reviewing each application.
Such items evaluated by the Committee include:
- Past and present marksmanship competition history, awards, involvements and future expectations for the sport.
- Extracurricular activities.
- Leadership
- Academic history
A minimum GPA is not required to apply, though academic achievements will be considered when awarding scholarships. Interested students should complete the application online and submit the supporting documents.
Along with scholarships for marksmanship athletes, one-time $1,000 Local Scholarships will be presented to students located near CMP’s facilities in Anniston and Talladega, Alabama, as well as Ottawa County, Ohio. No marksmanship experience is required for these community scholarships.
