Chris Knott, 29, of Gadsden, Ala., has surrounded his life with marksmanship. Most days, he suits up as a specialist in the Army or as one of the talented armorers within the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) Custom Shop. Other times, he finds himself taking his rifle talents outside the maintenance realm – not only readying triggers for others on the range but also pulling triggers himself in competition. It’s a recent passion that led him to earning his U.S. Army […]

Its range, only used by the team and within walking distance to dorms and classrooms, is located at the Military Science building, next door to UTEP Athletics. UTEP […]

Inspired by the many adventures he experienced as a member of the Air Force Pistol Marksmanship Team back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Dr. Robert “Doc” Engelmeier from Pittsburgh, Pa., created his own exposé. Documenting his excursions, including to Camp Perry, he goes into remarkable detail about being a competitor during that time period, the awards he accumulated and the friends he made along the way. The CMP will be posting the piece through a series on our […]

In 1998, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) inaugurated the John C. Garand Match and, with it, an exciting new concept in target competition. The Garand Match is a unique competition where shooters fire older “as-issued” military rifles over a course of fire that makes target shooting attractive to the average shooter. The availability of surplus M1 and other older military rifle make target shooting accessible to thousands of shooters, many of whom do not participate in traditional target competitions. The […]
